Wow, those are sweet. What part of which island do you run? Love that place, trout in the morn, kingfish in the afternoon, tuna at sunset. Those are badass. What am I looking at there a LS3? Details please.
We are in Tauranga, North Island. As the Island is sort of shaped like a Stingray our coast is North facing but we are considered the East Coast. Our provincial area is known as "Bay of Plenty", so called after the discoverers visited for the first time (plenty of fish, plenty of sunshine, plenty of natives). The province around the corner is known as the "Hawkes Bay" (Hawks already got everything). As the country is long and narrow you are never any more than about 3 hours drive from the coast. During spring you can snow ski the mountains in the morning, fish for fresh water trout at lunch, then waterski or trophy fish late afternoon (there are plenty of Kingfish just in the harbour). Our topography is such that the drop-off or 'shelf' is only between 3-12 miles off the coast, which is why we have so many day-fisher type boats here as there really is no need to spend a couple of nights on board. Blue Fin Tuna is about to have their migratory pattern just off the coast here, and there is a big(ish) Tuna tournament at the beginning of February. The 'One Base" tournament is soon as well and they all leave from our local port and must be back before a set time a few days later. Most go out each day then trailer their boats home each night to sleep in their own beds each night (or someone else's if the 'fishing' is right!). Usually you'll see Bronze Whaler sharks, Kingfish, Snapper, Tuna, Swordfish, and Marlin, and plenty of it.hamachitoro wrote:Wow, those are sweet. What part of which island do you run? The grey boat has an LM7 from Chevrolet which we marinised. It's a 5.3L iron block V8 sharing it's architecture with the LS motors and delivering 305hp and driving a Berkeley waterjet with an aftermarket reverse bucket. The green boat has a customer supplied 350cid SBC to which we added the heat exchanger, onboard heater and hot water shower (it had a priority raw water cooler in his previous boat). It runs an SDM 812 2-stage axial flow waterjet with electro-hydraulic power trim nozzle. The next boat (which is currently on hold while we build a bigger workshop) is getting the bigger SDM 852 waterjet coupled to a modded 6.0L LQ9 expected to make 495hp, and may even have cruise control depending on how well the software writers do.
