Getting news that after the industrial engines that will be be introduced from Sept 2010,Marine engines will follow suit from 2011 with the EGR/SCR technology.Cummins and Scania had a joint venture to develop the XPI injectors etc,and has been a great success. They should resemble the pics attached.

I worked with Scania truck diesels for years. They are fine engines. They were very simple and easy to work on.

The injector pressures back then were only about 6800 pSI . Now the new systems operate upwards of 25000pSI and burn far

more efficient.

The Scania engine blocks are very stout ! The engine are not big cubic inchers like the big Cats but they were very very

reliable.

My favorite of all the smaller displacement diesels are the Detroit Series 60s. Very simple design and make big power for

their size. The diesel industry is in a constant state of devolpment lately. Smaller displacements and higher HP as they

use super high efficient turbos and injection systems. The whole EGR thing is just to knock down Nox . It makes a damn

mess of everything in the process ! I wish they would all stop screwing around and get serious about hydrogen in

recipricating engines. It burns clean and emits only water when combusted.

I am sure it will be awhile but it will come once the big guys get a sranglehold on its production and infastructure.
