Spark plugs inthe Honda.

#1

Post by JETTYWOLF »

I changed out my spark plugs yesterday. NGK Iridiums. I change them every year. Supposedly they are good for 400 or more hours.

But, one thing I always notice is that they are loose when I go to take them out. One or two will be loose enough I can back them out with the Honda supplied wrench, with my fingers!!

I asked motor-cycle head Dad and he asked "do I torque them"....Don't have a torque wrench. And I'd have to look up the torque specs. (Specs below) And he said to run the motor, then GO BACK and re-tighten them again after a day of use.

Which is a bit of a pain, but a CAN DO.

Any other Honda folk notice the same thing??

My shop manual says; 13 # of torque A loose plug can get hot and damage the engine.

I remember my Honda 225's having loose plugs sometimes, rather have that than over reef 'em and mess up the threads in the head I guess. The Zuke I have now doesn't seem to do it . . .

DAMN

Every time I see that new boat pic of your Chaps, I say that SOB could be Florida approved! That be my kinda "fort".
With the porta-bracket setup, you could "FLATS FISH" for tailing Redfish almost.

I'll do as Dad said and re-tighten after trip 3 on them.....that's gonna be Sunday when I'm off.

With that finish, it does have that "concrete" color......

I guess no one else owns a Honda, no one else changes their own plugs, or pays attention to this condition.
