Kicker Motor??

Looking into kickers for the next toy. Will mostly be used in fresh water lakes for the "Ice-Out" so BIG waves will not be an issue, mostly other boat wakes from a distance. I noticed most come in a 20 or 25 inch shaft. I was told by a few people to go with the the 25 to get the prop deeper in the water to avoid cavatation. Would it be nessecary to use a 25 in fresh water with minimum waves?? I also noticed Mercury makes a "Bigfoot" model that is made with bigger components on the lower unit, prop ect. & a 2.42:1 gear ratio, claims it gives it more thrust & control. I would like to go with an EFI motor but no one offers one until 25 hp & only come with a 20 inch shaft.

So I was curious on what you run for a kicker & why you went that route???

9.9 Yamaha 20" Highthrust electric start and tilt. It pushes boat about 5 knots with main dropped down up goes about 7 at WOT...so that gives a good range for trolling. The seas/wave issue really has been a problem. My old 15 HP LS pull start no tilt two stroke would work its buns off to get 7 knots, it was not a HThrust. Anyone want to buy a 15 HPLS? Good luck

Why not go long.....you'll have it. Over and done with.

I was looking into the Tahutsu/Nissan 8.9 4 stroke made to be a aux motor all the bells and whistles, electric start, trim and tilt.

It was the BEST buy around and one place will beat anyones price, just type in Tahatsu aux motor in google.

If you still have that LUND. This is all you'd need I, think.

Then you can "jazz" up with the Panther controls.

I used to run the Yamaha T8. A good motor that they don't make it anymore SOB!Looking at a Honda 15 horse for the new boat. Your transom height will be the key to which length you want. A high thrust 9.9 will kick your 17' to 21' boat no sweat with no issues. We use them all of the time on our boats out in the PNW. hook up the panther stuff and drive on

Has anyone tried using a "trollmaster" on a kicker? I've seen them around and they are supposed to provide very precise control for low speed trolling. I wonder if they are worth the $300?

If I had the thousands to do it all and do it right. I'd tell ya..
I'd have the right size kicker, a custom bracket, and remote steering and throttle controls, no problem.
Beats trying to put a 36V trolling motor on a very windage prone 26' CC.

I'd buy all Panther has.
