"W",
I have no idea what yer talking about.
But yes, new radios are being regulated to have DSC.....so I read.

I have it and never used it. Because I know of no one who has one or even knows it. I have my "so called" radio number, on my dash. And would love to actually call someone someday.

BTW, Matching Raymarine Modular VHF with all the bells and whistles. And I never even turn it on.
But it's there.

C'mon.

What did you find new on this welder. One great advantage of DSC is the DSC distress button. If you are feeding your radio GPS info. When the distress button is activated it will send your MMSI number and position data. This signal will repeat until it is responded to by a shore station. It's not just your radio. All DSC radios that are in range of you will act as reapeaters giving your call greater range. It can get a faster responce than your EPIRB. There is a three part video on this at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-f4nhnBThg

Then yer Furuno has to be able to accept the Icom connections and be MMS ready, I guess. That's why I stuck with one brand for everything.

Welder it looks like both your units are nmea 0183 compatible.Check around there should be some pigtails with the matching plug for your units. A few splices and some configuration on the furuno should do it. Before I went to n2k I had an 0183 pigtail for my humminbird. nmea 0183 is a common standard. Here is some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NMEA_0183 The biggest thing I see the USCG not liking is the auto switching at an inopportune moment. It think you can switch this off on your unit.

Jetty, my radio is tuned for MAXIMUM SMOKE , if I knew your radio was on and what channel you were on I could key up and SMOKE your receiver . You better keep a Fire extinguisher handy ...
