New home for the Sculpin...the boat shed thread.

#1

Post by Sculpin »

Well some of you folks read about my late start this year and the reasons why etc. I decided to do something about it. I'm in the process of building a new home for the Sculpin. Nothing super fancy but heavy duty and functional just like her.

Here are some pics so far of the build. Not alot of space to put her here in the yard so I had to utilize some space up on the rock in the middle of the property.

There will be 4 frames total with angle iron tie in members to screw all the cladding to. It is 19.5' wide x 33' deep. Lot's of room to walk around and no chance of me hitting a wall while backing up (knock on wood).

I'll keep posting up the progression as the day's go by.

Cheers,
Sculpin

The main reason for this shed is to protect my investment and give me an area to work on her during the winter months out of the elements. Stuff like this................

I small flirt of winter we had in November. Going to be some more of that this winter around here me thinks!

A fort for a boat with a fort. Very cool! :highfive:

I can't control mother nature buddy.

Yes it will be built out of extra stuff kicking around the yard. Cladding will be 1.5 inch "Q" decking left over from various jobs and painted Melcher green to match the paint shack (in the background). I will fill in the footings, powerwash the rocks, and put some new driveway chips down.

This one will get jetty really confused ha ha. Just kiddin as Jetty was part of the inspiration for this shelter. He has a carport that he parks his vessel under.

Carport's are for those that wear sandal's everyday!

I would love to do something like this. I think I need something a bit more substantial. We get some pretty heavy wind here. 100+mph on Saturday night. My neighbor built a 30x40 deep fort for his boat. I can always dream, eh? Didn't Jesus wear sandals? :rotfl:

Hey Zeus there spoilded one. More substantial in those winds for sure. I might see that once in my lifetime at the location we are building (hidden behind a mountain). Snow fall is my biggest worry as we seem to get 4" more plus than surrounding area's.

Getting there. Almost all together.

Tomorrow the frame should be done and primed. I'm hoping to get the cladding done on Thursday and tuck her in by Friday afternoon.

Yeah but then I wouldn't be able to walk around the Sculpin. I should have about 5' each side and a couple behind the motor at the back. This shelter might serve as an area I could use to build a larger vessel without taking up production space in the shop.........hmmm.

Thanks goatram. You bettcha on the lighting. Six 4' fluorescent doubles and about 4 outlets. Might put an entrance light at the peak on the front to help backing up during the dark hours.

Ha ha. I wish Les. It's just a big old rock. The whole thing is sitting on solid rock. I'm doing this shelter as cheap as I can but still having it look half decent. I wasn't going to pay a rock breaker to come in and chip it out and I don't think the neighbors would like me setting off C.I.L. wobblers either .

The rear tires of the trailer end just at the beginning of the rock so it will actually act as my feeler stop so I don't drive through the back wall :rotfl: .

Finished off the back wall and put a window in it with some opaque NON ALLOY panels to let some natural light in.

Image

Ran some wiring, plugs, and a light switch. Got everything ready for some flat light grey epoxy primer.

Image

All painted up and ready for roof cladding and flashing tomorrow!!!

Suns going down. Time to call it a day.

The cladding showed up late this morning so we didn't get her finished today. Roof looks good though! We'll paint the outside of the walls the same colour once the weather get's better.

Image

I'm glad we put the back window in to let some natural light through.

Image

We got a couple of the lights installed as well.

Hopefully have the boat under cover by Sunday afternoon.

Yeah, but I ain't in the GREAT WHITE NORTH either........all I cared about was leaves and sun.

That ain't a fort for a boat with a fort, that's a bomb shelter for a boat with a fort!!!!!!!
AWESOME

Has to hold up all that white stuff, if the roof angle ain't enough.

Personally, I don't know how someone can subject thier boat to harsh sun, or constant dampness when stored for months.
I must be able to be up in my boat doing stuff, when it's 990 degrees in the summer. So protection for me is an absolute must have, and will always have. It's a luxury I will not live without.
