Through Hull Ducer

#1

Post by AlloyToy »

Hey Guys,

With all the Alloy boats now, there has gotta be a manufacturer of alloy compatible, or alloy made through hull transducers???

I know there are SS Ducers, but does someone make a Alloy grade Ducer?

The Airmar "tilted element' transducers can be had with either a bronze housing or a nylon one. Nylon is alloy friendly.

My fear with nylon is fishing in the winter months........will it crack, or can it potentially crack?

What does the USCG use on their boats for Ducers?

Cant answer the question about what the CG uses, but if Airmar makes it, I wouldn't be concerned about cracks.
Airmar has a long standing reputation to uphold, and I doubt they would risk that with a weak through-hull product.

How many firearms manufacturers sell tactical weapons with anything but nylon stocks these days?

If you'd rather the bronze fitting, I'll bet Jay could advise you on if it could be done or not.

Right now Stainless is the answer. I have had some very long conversations with one of the engineers at Airmar engineers concerning using an insulated bronze thru hull or a stainless. While the stainless still needs to be insulated he convinced me it was far better than trying to use a bronze thru hull. I have the SS270W

While a plastic or nylon thru hull sounds nice I am not sure I would want one stuck in the bottom of my boat for safety reasons.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe with all the Alloy Military craft nobody has built an alloy ducer.

TRANSDUCER FLUSHED INTO BOTTOM

Look at how my 24" transducer is flushed into the bottom and how the ramp makes the water flow over it without creating airbubbles. Nylon is the best way to go.

I believe NAT ended up with a transome ducer [ I think a P66 ] I know he did not go with a thiugh hull.

Marty, That's an awesome idea!!!

Do you think making a ramp like that for a transom mount ducer would work too?

After 20 MPH my display is gone. I think I'm not deep enough in the water with the ducer so I end up with air bubbles..........not sure

Set -up for Airmar SS260 transducer

Post by Tin Man »

I had Pacific weld a transom bracket on my 26ST that will allow use of the thru-hull transducer without actually cutting into the hull. I'm waiting for the NavNet 3x before i install the unit - here's a link to photos of the bracket which is mounted on the port side.

Alloy Toy,

Heck, email safeboats.com and ask them.

I think we've had this discussion before.

I have no problems and I have a t-ducer on my transom on the plate provided. That's why I thought they were there?

I would never drill a hole through my boat for such a thing, personally. Always had transom mounts, always will.

It has to be a matter of how ya have it mounted or the units style of T'ducer. Mine's a RayMarine, some kind of airmar most likely.

They put it on at the factory, and I ain't touched it yet.

I would mess around with yours before putting the hole saw into the hull.

It's either the unit or the mounting, but you should be able to get it right, on those plates the factory provides. I don't see why not when other owners aren't having problems.

TinToy....Excellent idea there!!!!!!

Jettywolf Excellent idea there!!!!!

I'm not keen either without building a watertight box in the bilge while the boat was being built.......It ain't gonna happen now. The Thru Hull Ducer gives you 1000 watts for deep water I believe.

TinToy has the right idea there......the best of both worlds.

Thanks guys

Welder I have the Standard Horizon CP1000 W/Airmar P58........I gotta mess with the position of the ducer in the spring. If anyone has a good shot both front & side of theirs that would help me reset it's position. I think I'm to shallow with mine or the angle is off. I may make an apparatus that is adjustable that I can change easily for testing purposes

Because THT doesn't allow photo-linking. :(
You're better off with another hosting service like Photobucket, Snapfish, or using the hosting space of your broadband provider.

There are some rubber encapsulated ducers on the market that work well on the metal hulls
