STICK-ON PAD

#1

Post by pjay9 »

The summer in the NW is coming to a close and I am not working 6 and 7 days a week...time to do some things to the boat and catch up on my AAB reading. Thinking about an anchor windlass and jack plate, but what I need to do right away is find this stick-on stuff.

I saw some of the manufactiures using a stick-on pad rubber gray black smooth trextured diamond patterned thin and thick soft hard cut with scissors knife peel and stick...you get the point! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT IS CALLED AND WHERE TO GET IT IN A ROLL OR SHEET? :?:

I want to use it to line the alloy side shelves where my rods lay and aound the windlass on the foredeck when I get that project started.

Any help will be certainly appreciated...I called SAFE up here and they don't use it!

Hello Capt. PJ. If the area you plan on lining gets wet I do not know if I would use peel and stick.

Whenever I am looking for stuff I always look through a McMaster Carr catelog:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#runners/=jasb8z

Even describes types of rubber sheets and their properties.

Rubber sheets, rubber mats, rubber runners, traction mats, cut to size and lay it down. Hope this sends you down the right path

This maybe more what your looking for. I think I have used this one. Works better if you buy the edge sealer. By a small piece or roll.and try it.

There is much to read thru and sort out...thx for the links...you would have thought that the boat manufacturer that used this stuff would have replied...I just wish I could remember which one I saw it on at the boat show in Seattle. I wonder if was ACB? THX for the help, so far! PJ :banghead:

Hi PJ

Rubber and aluminum should not go together and I'm never big on gluing strips or spaying thick coating on alum either.....seen too many things go on alum that cause electrolysis and then had to experience getting them off.

Hey Goatram

My typing teacher in high school didn't see eye to eye with me so at 15 I was skipping after noon typing class and hanging around the boat yards....more than 30 years ago.

The boats can speak for themselves...the good and the bad.

We use a range from a company based here Ultralon. They heat stamp patterns in to closed cell foams and apply a 3M adhesive to the backing. We like it as its softer on hands, knees, ladies... In particular we use their Octitread witch is one of their more dense foams.

It is an NZ company which might make things a bit harder for you.

We have had a sample set come in from Seadek (US company). They have a huge range, some very high density and some with good grip but at the moment the Octitread works best for us as it can be manipulated easily and offers good grip and durability. We use it round anchor and windlass areas on most boats. I'll pull up a picture of some.

Hi Gotram

I should get that web site updated.......someday. Some of the post here regarding the info on the web site are nasty....too bad.

I was reading the Comparing Hull post. The posts by Kmorin are excellent....always thought that I was building boats with bow flare. Now I know it is called flam. I consider there to be 5 aspects to a boat.

-Durability
-Use
-Ride
-Looks
-Cost

Each takes a different percentage base on what both the builder and the owner's needs are.

P.S. Your profile comment is great!! posting.php?mode=reply&f=3&t=4398# "Master of R&D aka Ripoff and Duplicate"

John we all have opinions and Holes. Kevin Has some great teaching abilities and he likes to share as I do. But I don't have his knowledge or expertise. Now for my signature. A friend bet me I would not put that in my signature here on AAB. He used to work at Northriver and Lost his Job when the SWMBO got wind of the DumbA$$ who thought he owned NR carrying on's. He is of the opinion that we all do that R&D that is.

Capt PJ; sorry we Hyjacked your thread. I did learn from it though; about the Rubber (NoNo) and need to use a Vinyl/plastic instead. A guy on BD found Carpet under his fuel tank that the Manufacture put there. Tank was corroded threw and leaking from the salt and wet carpet
