Need a welder.

#1

Post by buck3 »

So I get to have some input on a new welder for the shop. We are looking for a single phase mig machine. I was looking at the Miller 212 Autoset. Is that a decent machine? Or is there a better option for that price range ~$2k? I am not a welder but I will be trying to use it. And I would like to be able to add a aluminum spool gun later for personal use.

Thanks

Recently I bought a Miller 211 MVP with Auto Set. I has about the same specifications as the 212 with the additional capability of being able to run on 120V or 240V. I don't care for the Auto Set, it works but it is more for beginning welders. The machine is a nice size and welds wonderfully. It can also be set up with a low end spool gun for aluminum.

If you don't need a production machine that will be running a lot of hours each day I would recommend you look at the 211.

If I needed a machine bigger than the 211 I would go to the 252. I really don't see the purpose of the 212 now than Miller has the 211 and the 252.

Well my boss ended up buying a Miller 252. I already have a Miller passport and he has a Miller Bobcat that is trailer mounted so we should have everything covered. Is there any secrets or tips for setting it up? I didnt talk him into a aluminum gun yet so it's only for steel for now.

Got a Miller 211 couple of days ago and mostly spent time on the net gathering info on it. Not as powerful as the 252 but not needed for now.

Great info on http://weldingweb.com/
