New Cable Seal?

#1

Post by kmorin »

This product and design of the product look like they could be useful in running cables of different sizes in and out of metal boats? I think the base is threaded in plastic, so a series of 'tapped blocks' could be made to TIG into the sides of cabins, transom bulkheads and other sealed entrances to make a clean boot with strain relief that was as water tight as any other non-packed gland?

Not native US product as near as I can see, but probably distributed in the US by electronics suppliers?

Although the link may not work. I know what Kevin is describing. Blue Seas use to sell a similar packing gland. The base as machined delrin which had three countersunk screw holes. a threaded cable gland was threaded in the center. It is an easy way to add a thru the bulkhead fitting. I bought a few off of a clearance rack so I'm not sure that Blue Sea still distributes.
We sometimes weld threaded bungs in to a bulkhead and add a watertight (npt) cable gland to it.

If you had a use for more than a few of these you could have your local cnc lathe guy whip out a batch of bases and order cable glands as needed. Our local guy makes us the aluminum bung that we weld in to bulkheads and fuel tanks.

Thanks for the head's up, I've tried again to post a good link to the product I was trying to link above.
http://www.icotek.com/en/products/cable ... serts.html
this looks like the sizes are mainly metric but then if a given size were used? the machining of the tap block or female thread port could still be standardized.

My thinking was this was flexible, but sealed- inside the Kel-F/urethane/elastomeric neck and the plastic body would be easy on the corrosion aspect of the threaded body seal.

There are probably products like this int he US imperial sized market but this announcement got my attention.

Yes there are lots of products in this class, but none that seem to have the seal neck flexible boot that the German product shows? Anyway, hope these links work better than before.
