2003 Coldwater Boat History

#1

Post by patrickl »

I'm trying to track down some history on a Coldwater Boat I purchased this spring. This is a 2003 3100 Pilothouse. It originally had twin 225hp Honda outboards on it but was re-powered with twin 300hp Yamahas when the second owner bought it in 2012 and brought it to Alaska. I'm trying to track down as much information on it as I can including specs, history, perhaps the original owner, and anything else folks can tell me. The boat was originally named "Jake and the Fat Man" but the second owner removed it. I've also attached photos in hopes someone will recognize it. Anything you can tell me would be great as it sure would be nice to have a build sheet or the actual specs for the boat.

I looked at that boat in 2012. It was a bargain during the downturn of the economy..

I wish I had bought it then.

Hi Patrick,

I know the original owner and can share his info with you privately if you like. Have you contacted Bruce @ Coldwater to get more info? I doubt he has the original build sheet or specs, but as it turns out I was just talking about this very boat with him a couple weeks ago. He and his sons seem to remember every detail of every boat they've built so I'm sure he can give you more info. I'm at ColdWater on a weekly basis to check progress on a boat they're building for me and can help get more info. They have CAD drawings for my boat and I will definitely be taking them with me once completed. They may still have your plans, who knows....

Feel free to call me if you like.

PSUlion, this is great news. I apologize it took so long to get back to you but I forgot my password and then got locked out for a couple weeks. I contacted Coldwater via their website several months back to ask if they could tell me anything and they said, as you suspected, that they do not have the build sheet and didn't offer anything else. I've got to say, I've owned several welded aluminum boats including Hewescraft and Glacier Craft and this is by far the best built most robust boat I've ever had. It's not even close.

I'm just looking to get as much info on this boat as possible as I'm planning to keep it for a long time. Anyone you can hook me up with or info you can give me would be much appreciated. PM sent you way.

Thanks again,
Patrick

Patrick,

Coldwater boats built Bristol Bay gillnetters under All Points Marine. So yes these are the most robust of boats. I have a good friend here in Southeast that stole a 28' Coldwater for $85k two years ago. Talk about aluminum plate!!! Good score for you too!

Thanks Sobie2. I agree, this boat is built like a tank. It's amazing just to crawl around in it and see the build quality. I couldn't ask for a better built boat and just wish the previous owner had taken better care of it. But with a little work, and a ton of cleaning, we've ended up with way more boat that I ever thought we could afford.

PSULion, somehow I missed part of your previous post. I'll track you down in a few days to see if I can get in touch with the previous owner. Thanks again for the offer to help.
