Fresh water guy hear needs salt info

Have a nice 18 foot Sylvan that I converted from an I/O with a stearn bracket and a 115 Johnson OB.

My wife and I are thinking of a month in S/W Florida next winter. I have located a nice place to stay that has a dock in the Everglades City area.

Can I get by for a month without bottom paint wth the boat at a dock?? The boat does not have bottom paint.

Should I put zincs on it? If so, where? I can tilt the motor completely out of the water.

I guess that woudl be brackish water???

I put my Pacific 23 in Bayou Chico [ Pensacola FL. ]for two weeks at a time with no bottom paint and there is no problems but I do have a monster zinc on the hull , one on each trim tab and of course the ones that come on the motor.
The hull will get some growth on it that washes right off at the ramp.

Yes you do NEED zincs on her , they do work very well if installed right.
Should be no problem, have a GREAT trip.

I'm sure others will be along to offer advise.

Give Jay a holler at www.blacklabmarine.com he is a Sponser here on AAB and I'm sure He will help you out.

remember zincs need to be bonded to the hull making complete contact. You maybe able to get away with one of those zincs on a nylon coated steel cable, that are usually shaped like a fish. Take it and clamp the end of it to the boat, and have the zince hanging in the water, when not in use at the dock.

I'm not sure.......for a month? That isn't all that long really.

But this is a very good question.

Anyone else got a comment?

In the winter time the water will be colder. Somewhat less conducive to growth than in the warm weather months.
