I have an espar airtronic D4 in my boat. The wallas heaters are toys in comparison. I had a wallas in my old hewescraft and it had a lot of issues. I have been running the espar for four seasons and have not had any problems with it. I have also heard great things about the webasto units. They look nearly identical to the espars.

I have a friend with a 26 hewescraft with the standard cabin and he started with the D2 and upgraded to the D4. He is happy and warm. These Espars really throw the heat. I have fired it up at the house at -20º and it will be 75º in the cabin. They sip the fuel and don't draw much power. Life with out espar would not be good.

Make sure you get the "marine" kit. It is a bit different than the one they put into the big rig trucks. Remember, any fool can rough it!

I took a look on Espars website & you guys got me curious. How do these get hooked up/ or installed?? Any pictures??? How much do these go for??? Anybody have any pictures of theirs. I like fishing right after the ice out, it is just so damn cold out in May at 6 in the morning.

Mine is mounted along the port side gunwale. The thermostat is mounted at the helm. I only have two vents. One to the birth and one along the port side front bench seat. An airtronic D4 will run you around $2K.

COOL, Thanks for the info. I wonder if I can hook a remote starter to that so the cabin will be warm before I get to the ramp???? :rotfl: :rotfl:

It will make early & late season fishing WAY more bearable.

Sabs get a little buddy propane heater and use your BBQ gas bottle. $150 compared to 2K for a Lund :skillet:

The Lund is fully open. I am noting all these ideas for the next boat. Decided to hold off another year or two & save more money, don't want an outrageous boat payment. I am trying to stick to a budget. Want to get a fully enclosed, full width cabin, 26ish feet long. If I did the Buddy heater I would want it rigid mounted. Lucky for me I have a Good Friend who is a Welder/ Fabricator to make the fixture to hold it in place, so all the little gizmo's & trinkets can be installed as I go. I wouldn't want the heater or the propane tank rolling around while under way. I like the idea. I am not looking to melt the ice in Alaska from NH, But keeping the windows from fogging up & taking the chill out of the cabin is a great plus.

In my Maxweld cat I had a Wallas diesel stovetop heater that really worked well. Lid down it blew hot air, lid up you could cook on it. I would do another one if I had a boat with a small galley.

I have had the same Wallas heater as Chaps in my last couple of boats, with good results. My present boat also has a Toyo heater defroster that seems to work well, and hits the bunk area harder than the Wallas.

Am I reading the espar website right when I say you have to go for a D5 if you want to run it on Gasoline?
