Looks awsome but have they actually made one and what would the cost be?

the web says they are looking for someone to go through the prototype process with them, so It seems hull No. 1 is still pending. But, I would love to see someone build it and test it.

What is the benefit of a stepped hull? Is it only for go fast boats?

Pete,
I haven't an honest answer because I don't know but google told me...It's to give offshore boats that run offshore better economy and speed when making long runs.

My understanding is that the "steps" break up and ventilate the water passing under the hull. This reduces friction, allowing greater speed. So I think it is a go fast thing.

venting also makes the hull less stable in turns and prone to wasing out if you dont pay attention to what you are doing.

Pete,

I think simply put it's called

-Mo' Air!
-Less water!

Air resistance ''versus'' water resistance, take yer preferance. Used in the RACER boat world.

Ya'll pushing ice bergs around want water surface........ :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks for the clarification, guys. Seems like a lot of work for an alloy hull.

Pete,

the competition is all those plastics that look as if the "Buck Rogers design team" engineered them.

So....

That has to be one of the coolest things I have seen an alloy builder do in a long time! Wow. I think Jetty should be the guinea pig for the prototype. Nice little sun shade. Kind of like a fort but with no walls eh Jetty?

Nice to see something different for a change. Lot's of rod holders!!!!

My understanding of stepped hulls is that while increasing speed and economy, you pay a penalty in really having to pay attention. It is real easy to do an immediate 180 degree turn that you weren't planning on making.
