This is battleship grade alloy build

I was looking around the web and ran across an Alex Gravois build of a gulf bayboat. Unbelievable framing and plating IMO. Wish the guy had a website I could post on the master builder list.

Gorgeous boat! Wonder how it matches up vs. the market?

OH MY GAWD!!!!!!!!

Ya mean, a Pac wester intrigued by a southern style (NOT BRISTOL) Bay Boat :?: Builder.

Chaps, I have been talkin those for a long while. (And yes, thanks...)

But as usual, (ya know I'm gonna say it.....) "if it doesn't have a fort and 10K of electronics it just doesn't get much press here.

You find these on THT, I hate to say. With lots of "discussion". But not here.

Because the slant here on AAB has become, up yonder in the great white north.

All those La. alloy boat builders. Came on in, saw snow, and I guess, went back to their shop. :rotfl: :rotfl:

That might be one of the only boats that I'd actually sell mine for and have one of those built....there's a chance. A slight one. If I could get full-time on, LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN.

(ex-nay on the mercury-nay, though)

BTW, in case some of ya are wondering what's that on the bow? it's called a E-L-E-C-T-R-I-C trolling motor. And that thang on the stern is called a "power pole" - shallow water anchoring device. (In Chaps posted pics)

Notice the absence of a crab trap puller :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm not intrigued by the style (though its damn nice) or the market comparisons (don't think there is a comparison). What blows my mind is the framing. That looks like a 3/8" x 6" flat bar scantlings - friggin unbelievable.

But hell, at least a well built boat that catches Trout to Sailfish got some attention here, EH?

Not a lot of Southern Good Old Boys Posting up Build threads. I think you are falling down on your job of selling the site and getting them to post here.

The PNW builds boats the way we like them for our waters. Not all locals have 70* water temps. :hammer:

Guy is just down the road from me.
I will go by there this week and see if we can get him to log on!!

What is amazing to me is that design is over thirty years old.
There are a couple guides around Golden Meadow Louisiana that have had their boats re-furbished three times!!

The oldest boat was bought for 12K!!! that boat sells for close to 90K now!!

I have what has to be the runner up to Gravois, I bought my boat from Gaudet's and it was during the time that Gravois was not building ANY pleasure boats and the Gravois family recommended Clint Gaudet.

I could not be happier with my hull as I think Gaudet's has a little more forward thinking when it comes to design.
Gravois does have unbelievable rigging!!!

They are quite the shinizzle for sure!

The framing of that boat is insane. Great looking lines.

No doubt they have to be expensive with that much aluminum in a hull that size. They must ride like '56 Cadillacs! It would be great to have the builder post up a little info about his boats and a few more pictures if he's got any in electronic format.

As I said, "these guys came and went."

Don't know how big the Gravois clan is. But at least one posted here a few times. I remember talkin to him.
Might have been about the Metal Sharks.

Not to sound like a Ron Paul, but I'd love to see a "southern contingency". And Louisiana, is about it.
I'm more interested in guys building small mud boats in their sheds, than mega-lops floating campers.

http://www.mudmotortalk.com is a good place for seeing local builders in action. Dozens of them on there and many have learned from the many Master builders in Louisiana.

Well Jimmy (Metalshark) has obviously left the old ways behind and is into computer assisted production boat building. Alex on the other hand . . . to paraphrase the mexican bandits in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (and Blazing Saddles), "badges . . badges? we don't need no stinkin' badges!" I can imagine Alex Gravois responding to a customer wanting him to build a cad/cam designed boat, "cut file . . cut file? we don't need no stinkin' cut file" as he throws the thumb drive on the ground and stomps it into the gravel . . .

Stopped by yesterday and dropped off my card and asked to get Alex log on and talk to us some.
Apparently the fab shop by my house builds the boats for Alex, At least that is what the gentleman told me.

Alex then takes the boat and rigs and finishes the boat, exceptionally well I might add.

Dat's what I kneaux

Simplepeddler sorry I missed you at the fab shop. Thanks for all the nice comments. Have lots of photos of new boats and refit boats would like to share with AAB, however I am having a bit of problem uploading them, files seem to be too large. Maybe one of you cand direct me on how to get them up on the board. Have been visiting this site for years and really like it. A lot of nice alloy boats here.

Alex,

Stop "surfin" and start posting some "real" bay boats

Been a fan myself for a long time of the Gravois name. And now Simplepeddler has exposed us to the Gaudet folks, too.

You may have seen my earlier rantings (because that's what I do) about NOT much "southern contigency", here.

It's a hot 85 in Jax Fla. today with gale force winds, I've already rescheduled Todays charter, and maybe Sunday's too.
So I need me a fix of cold sweet tea and some bad azz bay boats.

(Your's is about the only boat I'd trade mine out for. If I could move to La. Keep that under yer hat!)
