on a side note: Les, I was looking through the forum trying to figure out where to post this and could not find a "General Boat Discussion" Category.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

I've spoken with these guys!

I thought that they were mistaken as they were advertising PT-8 as a 1938 aluminum "PT" boat.

Well,I knew from my research on aluminum boats that the last 4 "PT" boats built (809, 810, 811, 812) were all aluminum but they were all built in the late 40's and early 50's:

Aluminum PT 812 - the last!

These last 4 were built after WWII and some even saw service in Vietnam so the idea of a pre WWII aluminum PT boat seemed absurd - the technology wasn't there (or so I thought!)

PT-8 was an experimental aluminum PT boat built at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in 1938 and was riveted (thus screwing up the whole platey/tinnie category!).

Good find, Jim!
