Took a trip down in Mexican waters on Wed. Another 140+ mile trip. Buddy took these pics. He's a bit more with it when it comes to the camera and taking pictures. Only caught 7 tuna all on the troll but did better than pretty much 90% of the boats out there. Better to be lucky than good! It looks pretty calm but we actually took spray all day long.

Fred from up in Michigan sent us these photos of him and his son running the Big Manistee River.
Beautiful country up that way! Family trips, we’re all about that!

Great photo and story about this research couple and how their Wooldridge Boat helps them get the job done. Interesting read!

From WB customer and friend James B. "10 days of hard hunting off the Tanana River and finally found something to fill the freezer, boat performed awesome. I’m heading back out for three more days. Hopefully be running light in and heavy out! Would recommend this vessel to anyone who spends there time on rivers!" 2013 XL 20’ SportJet 200 Optimax.

Last Wed. went 187 miles and 17 hours on the motor. Haven't filled the boat back up so not sure just how much fuel we actually burned but gauge said 52 gallons. We put in 10 gallons while off of Ensenada. I think we still had another 15+ gallons left in the tank. Not bad getting 3.6 mpg since we got beat up going uphill for about 50 miles. Longest trip to date. Don't think I want to do one of these trips anytime soon.

Top picture was early in the morning. It was pretty nice. Wish I could say so about the fishing. Porpoise but no fish. We did catch skipjack but who takes pics of those??

Middle picture was taken at the Middle Island of the Coronado's. It was just before sunset and we pretty much had to run right into the wind and bump for another 20 miles in the dark to get home. We caught 8 bonita trolling hootchie daisy chains (2) in about 30-40 minutes. All going uphill. Didn't get
one fish the other direction. No pictures of those either. Some of them were pretty big.

Last picture was taken well offshore down around Ensenada. Little illegal just landed on the boat then flew into the cabin. Stayed with us for a bit then flew off. Same thing happened last year when a falcon was chasing a bird and it landed on the boat and stayed with us for a while.

Pretty rare 20’ 1985 Alaskan with the original Mercury outboard. Don’t see that to often.

Not only do we make some of the finest boats in the business, but we get to play a small part in making some awesome memories for people, and that might just be the best part about out work. ”Feeling blessed - lucky enough to share a waterfowl hunt with my pops the other day. Even at 65+ yoa, he’s still scrambling up cut banks in waders and shooting triples! Here he is with his mixed duck limit. I hope I’m as capable at his age (doubtful)..”

Stumbled across these pictures online of these custom Alaskan II boats we built for Katmai Lodge 30 plus years ago. Was neat to see these boats still in use all these years later. Don’t know who to credit for these pictures, just thought they were to beautiful not to share.

The old adage of "Red sky in morning sailor take warning" fortunately didn't come to pass until we were back in the harbor. Coast Guard kept
announcing over Channel 16 Small Craft advisory and Gale warnings along with Thunder Storms every 30 minutes or so. As you can see from the
pics it was hardly the case. Well not until much later and did it rain and blow. NOAA recorded almost 1500 lightning strikes off the coast of Santa Barbara later that evening!

2nd pic was the first drop. Took all of 5 seconds to get bit. Was also a new spot never fished before. Turned out to be a pretty good spot.

CA may have some pretty whacky laws but fishing limits are pretty good compared to say OR and WA. 10 rockfish. Miss counted and ended up
with 19. Even caught a cowcod which we released via a descending device along with a few other fish. We were done in just 2 1/2 hours.

Almost all the fish were Vermillion or Reds as we call them. I think only 4 or 5 fish were not Reds.

117 miles traveled round trip. 27.5 gallons burned. 4.25mpg. Not bad at all.

Decided last trip was just too good to pass on another window that opened up for a few days. Went out just before the rain hit Tue. evening. This time no red sky in morning. Just overcast and some thick fog in places. Took a good pounding going home in some very unusual wind going up the channel.
Fishing was pretty good though. The tern took an extended stay on the roof. Fed it strip squid. Hopefully, karma will be returned chasing tuna and the terns will show us where they are. Island almost looks like Hawaii after all the rain this past winter. This is the west end of Santa Cruz.

Ever have a good luck charm? Not that I'm superstitious or anything but here's mine. In fact, he's such a good luck charm that if he's going to go, it's an automatic pass from the wife. He's such a good luck charm that I caught the big yellowtail while rockfishing! At least he targeted his at the top. Mine ate a small strip of squid and I wasn't even holding the rod when it bit! Was getting ready to move the boat because of the lobster pots in the background. Taped at just over 48" to the tail. Over 40lbs after being bled and gutted. Yup, pretty good luck charm!

Dropped off daughter and friends on the island. Went and did some fishing without my good luck charm and this is about what I ended up with.

Think it's a Gobi. It ate about a 5" mackerel I jigged up trying for halibut. No such luck with the halibut. Didn't get skunked though! Not the best shot I know, but I couldn't see the fish very well with the glare off the cell. It's smaller than the bait!

Haven't been out in a while. Remember the picture without my good luck charm on the boat? Well, this trip took the good luck charm out and caught the biggest reds (Vermillions) we've ever caught. I'm sure several were over 12lbs. No legal lings on this trip and only caught 1 which is unusual. But I can't complain. The reds were huge. The pic on the driveway is just 15 that were taken out at random. I know we had some that were bigger than most in other coolers. We found that there is only one thing that will consistantly catch the reds w/out much bycatch: Red shrimp flies.

Our customers Tom and Sandy were recently featured in an article about them with their boat in the Sandusky Register newspaper. It’s always a neat little snapshot into how someone uses their Wooldridge and the decision making process someone goes through while selecting their new boat!

Haven't fished in a while. Life happening. Decided to try for salmon as the tuna fishing wasn't happening (until we went salmon fishing!). Reports for salmon were really good. Hadn't fished for them in about 20 years give or take. After spending the day trying for them I can honestly say I think they are harder to fish for than tuna. Trolling at around 2mph in wind and swell sure isn't easy. Especially, when they are at close to 300'!

Anyways, to make a long story short (shorter) we landed 3 with one being a short. Lost one 8lb. weight which was a blessing in disguise as it forced us to run into Santa Cruz and get a couple of 15lb balls. Lost a nice one to a furbag. We could see it eating big chunks. Missed more than a few that popped off. Had a real big fish go air borne 3x and spit the hook. That was the last fish we hooked and it was a heart breaker. I think we were one of the last private boats on the water.

Pic of my buddy with our 2 keepers.
