I have used all of those. My Current Boat has one thru hull currently and it is a piece of threaded 6063 schedule 40 pipe with a backing plate that is welded to the inside of my boat with the pipe welded to the outside as well. the seacock you have a picture of is what I use. 1.5" diameter thru hull that feeds a manifold that has the three pumps connected. I am also adding another thru hull that will use the boat to pump the water to washdown the deck after it gets nasty. The boat will have to be on plane though for it to work. :smitty:

Marelon has this vid for doing the install of the pick-up. Be sure to use a seacock with the flange base and a backing block.

goatram, 6063 will dissolve if immersed for any time... its very high in copper much higher (3x ??) than 6061 and will not last- if the boat wets this fitting it is dissolving every minute.

Oddly enough the welding process usually mixes enough 5356's other alloys to more or less 'save' that HAZ but the rest of the pipe, if it is '63, is a battery pure and simple.

I'd think twice about that alloy choice, IMO.

Thanks Kevin. I did not know that. Looks like I have another mod to do. Glad it is only one so far

Maybe something 5200 would stick to, but wouldn't break down. Looks like I'd have to stack and glue a few square blocks of pvc (from Tap Plastics) to get to a 1" thickness. But I'm pretty sure it would allow for 5200 to stick to it.

Thanks again for that link.
A chunk of teak or mahogany in that application will do fine.

I "assume" Armstrong knows what they are doing, my two hulls are welded in stainless. Washdown and toilet. I "assume" it isolate somehow. I hope.

They are stout though

Chtucker, I'm not clear on welding in SS sea cocks in an aluminum hull? do you mean there is a SS seacock on an aluminum riser or adapter of some type?

I think its a phrasing or word choice confusion?

Poor english skills.

Kevin,

My through hulls are welding into the hull. They are described as being made of stainless steel on the bill materials. The through hull valves are also made of stainless.

I hope/assume that there is proper dissimilar metal isolation.

My Boat is ok. The below deck thru hull was made from Coldwater. They had it machined with their pipe. Again I learned something. My above the water line thru hulls are 6063 alloy. You did save me from putting in the new one. Thank-you

She has sat in the water now for 10 months so far since new!

I stand corrected. I am unsure what the through hulls are made of. I assume they are aluminum, but there is an inline stainless steel valve on both the toilet and the washdown pickups. Both of my pickups are 3/4" I have no live-well.

I need a good way to figure out how to winterize the pickup side and pumps for both.

That boat was pretty cool

It was built by Armstrong before the moved to Port Angeles. I know they struggled at that time and I don't know why they moved. They still have some of the same styling cues.

They sure have had their ups and downs. They seem to be doing pretty well now after a layoff last fall. They are hiring again.
