Sea Ark or alternative?

#1

Post by petrel »

I'm searching for a large, stable, inexpensive, aluminum boat, for a family of six, that can be wet slipped (uncovered) year around. It will be docked on a shallow saltwater creek and used for crabbing, a little water sports, and some near shore fishing. I've already purchased a used 2-cycle 115 hp outboard with a 20" lower unit, and my remaining budget is about $12k w/trailer.

I already have a Phowler 2066 that would be great for this job, but it is set up for duck hunting with a slick bottom and a mud motor. I'd order another Phowler, but they are a bit pricey for this application. My #1 candidate (I almost pulled the trigger yesterday) is a Sea Ark 2472, equipped with their Alaskan style center console. This is the kind of no frills rig I think would fit the bill for a low maintenance family boat.

Please give me your opinions on the Sea Ark or your suggestions on an alternate rig. Thank you.
