I would like to build a aluminum fish box, double walls with 2" of insulation. What type of insulation I need? I need something the wont burn/melt when welding the double walls.

joe85000,
I've tried more than a few times to weld up both insulated panels and cooler type enclosures of aluminum. Due to the all-metal design the heat was always conducted by the liner/case/frame/skin - the doggone things always managed to melt more than they kept cool.

Also, vibration of the metal turns out to be a decent "heater" and seems to melt shaved ice at a fast pace. I've more or less gotten used to building something to hold plastic molded/insulated products.

Would be great to learn someone has figured out how to do this type of fab work with good results?

Cheers,

After the fish box is built pressure test it, then use a spray can of foam to fill the inside with insulation. Caution use a little at a time to give it time to expand.
