Paint peeled off

#1

Post by rbarr1 »

I recently repainted my 21 ft Crestliner Rampage. Cleaned, sanded the old finish (pressure wash, wipe with acetone, sand, wipe with acetone). 2 coats of aluminum primer. 2 coats of enamel. Air dried for 3 weeks plus. Put it in the water fir the first time today. Some areas peeled off. Where did I go wrong? The primer is completely intact. It appears the enamel didn't adhere properly to the primer.

Please provide specifics on paint & primer used. There is obviously some kind of product incompatibility or application error.

Obviously compatible products. I would suspect the primer surface may have had a thin layer of condensation on it when you applied the first coat of topside paint. Pretty easy to overlook, primer must be bone dry and air temp preferably over 60°f when applying alkyd enamels

Thanks for the reply. Very possible. I'll sand and repaint.
