New Hatch

Another use of our friendly plastic product, Starboard. I mentioned in my travels across the country i hit some terrific side winds and it played havoc with the forward escape hatch on the camper. It cracked and bent the heck out of it! So I built my own with the help of the local plastic shop that did the welding. Starboard as you may know cannot be glues..nothing sticks to it! It has to be mechanical fasteners or plastic rod welded. When welded it becomes one unit and very strong.

The hatch is 3/8" white starboard...I didn't think because of its dense characteristics that light would come thru..it does see pic below.

Closed hatch and it lets some light in.

All I need to do is find a good weather strip and I am done. This will be the last hatch this camper needs. Capt PJ

Yeah, those camper hatches are flimsy things, hate 'em. Nice job on that new one, that plastic welding is done with super hot air shot thru a small dia. nozzle, kind of neat system

They also have plastic rod guns using hot hot air to add material to the area being welded. Back in the days of my old job the city lined the refuse dump with HDPE sheeting the was welded together as it was laid out, two seams at each edge about 6" apart then it was air tested, by making a pocket pillow out of the two seams and sealing the top and bottom...then a needle was inserted and air pumped in with a meter to watch for any pressure drop...neat stuff that hot air welding.
