Soon I'll be making my way to Fort Collins and Denver and onto Leadville, CO to have some fun with a pal of mine who is a locomotive engineer and a captain as well. He is working the senic train in Leadville.

I'll be travleing along I-84 to Boise and then onto I-80 to Fort Collins, then south to Denver and then over to Leadville...is there anyone along the way that would like to meet up for a coffee or ? ? Have not decided if I will go down I-5 to pick up 84 or over the pass on 90 to 82 then 84...latter is shorted by 50 miles but more of a pain, less mountains to cross along the river.

Let's hear if anyone wants to meet. PJ

PS it will be after the 4th week as they having me work the second overload ferry two days that week...should be un I have done that task yet!

Won't be there, but I lived in Leadville from 1996 till 2010. I know a lot of people there still and miss the scenery... sometimes the weather and sun.

Awesome place. Worth the trip. How long are you planning on being there? Any other activities besides the train?

I hear there is a new distillery in town :skipper:

Driving: Leadville to Aspen for lunch
Long day motorcycle trip, Leadville, Aspen, Paonia, Crawford, Gunnison, Buena Vista over Cottonwood pass (400 miles, 13 miles dirt, 4 passes, dream ride)
Fly? Take a quick trip from the highest paved airport in North America
Off road? Leadville to Alma over Mosquito pass
bicycle? Rent a bike a ride the 12 mile paved Mineral Belt Trail around town
raft? Go down to Buena Vista and go with Dvorak for a great time.
Watch? Leadville Trai 100 races, second & third weekends in August. 100 mile mountain bike or 100 mile "run"

Those are all summer items, the train runs into October.... Could be snow and closed roads by that time, so check first.

Fall and winter have their own things to see...anytime in October till lat April the ground will be completely covered in snow
