Outriggers

Guys,
Question:
When you swing outriggers out into fishing position, how should they be set? Perpendicular to the boat, slightly facing aft?????? Does it matter for a proper release? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to outrigger positioning?

Alloy, I have found that when trolling spreader bars, height is most important. With enough height the line is never in the water & the bars "swim" well. I have trolled them in the flat lines / rod holders & they dont "swim" well. They dive & do not look natural & I havent caught fish that way. I can only speak from my experience and riggers aimed slightly back & up high have fooled many a bluefin tuna for me. I hope this helps !

Thanks, it does. I've only had gunnel riggers on my "past glass" boat.

I fish the Fisherman Outfitter 15/13" 4' bars off "The Bank"........this year with the riggers we're going East of Chatham baby!!!
