New to this site, but not alloy boats.....

#1

Post by SmokinBarrel »

First, I'd like to say hello to all those on this site, and hope to contribute as well as get advise from those more experienced. I suppose I'll start out with a few pictures of my boat, which I purchased in Sept. 2009. I had to drive to International Falls, MN to purchase the boat, because there isn't any alloy boats in the style found on this site in the Midwest. I figured I'd be the first to purchase, which I felt was perfect for the type of fishing I do around here on the Big Rivers (Missouri & Mississippi).

I have done a lot of updates to the boat since purchasing it:
1. Added a tower
2. Stereo and Amp
3. Custom Bimini Top
4. Anchor Roller
5. Swim Ladder
6. I also plan to install a Simrad NSE12 when it is delivered. I know, kind of a over kill for around here, but I am an electronics nut.

So, without further a-do.... here is my boat, soon to be named Night Tails, or Tales.... haven't decided yet.

Almost forgot, it is a Hewescraft SeaRunner 22' ET w/ Yam F150.

The graphic will be without the bikini. I put it on for discretion. I haven't decided on Night Tales or Tails?

Nice hewes. I ran a Hewescraft Alaskan with twin yamahas for five seasons. They make a great, no frills fishing machine. Welcome to AAB!

Thanks for the replies. I will admit, aside from wishing I got the Yam F225 when I bought the boat, I really enjoy it - a lot. Honestly, sometimes I cannot get the boat in the water because people ask where I got the boat ( referring to style and it being all welded). It is great when I'm casting for bait around barges and the boat is slamming up against them - major pucker factor! :-) But need that good bait!

I mainly fish for trophy size Blue Cats. But, you can also catch Walleye and Sturgeon. I often like to anchor in the middle of the confluence where the MO and MISS meet. A lot of turbulence and big under tows/currents so a lot guys will not anchor there.

It is definitely a challenge each time out! A lot of boats on the bottom! Also, approximately one in two/three people who go overboard don't come back up.

Goat,
Yes, that be me. :-)

Welcome aboard. Nice rig. Tell me about the LEDs. I would like to add some under water LEDs to the back of my boat. Haven't decided yet on what to use.

Welcome to AAB. Very nice boat. Hewscraft was at the top of my short list when I bought my boat. I wound up with an Alumaweld that is smaller but looks similar to your boat. I know how you feel about driving a long way to buy your boat. I had to drive 1220+ miles to pick mine up at the closest dealer.

Can't find underwater lights?
Jus' search, the web. They are all the rage, especially in S. Florida where the water is pristine clear.

Another item that you can pay way too much for.
The LED technology has gone nutz.

LEDs are like a wife. Easy to fine, but getting the wrong one can be a problem. I found a great wife, but still looking for the right LEDs.

The LED lights on my boat came from Coastal Night Lights. I also purchased interior and flood lights. Reasonably priced and epoxy sealed. So far, so good!

I also placed some lights inside my livewell. The lights are triggered by a magnet when I open the lid. Worked great for awhile until the manetic switch burned up because of constant current. So, I think I have a solution, but I figure I'll just install a fixed switch to turn it on and off. 'A' for effort, right?
