Wooldridge 29' Pilot House headed for Ohio

#1

Post by tviel49 »

I have been lurking around this and several other sites for over a year. I guess it is time to pay up, share what I learned and show what I bought. I decided I couldn't live without a new boat (imagine that). What made it even worse, once my wife found out it was possible to be in a boat and not be cold wet or scared, she encouraged the idea. I had looked at both aluminum alloy and NON ALLOY boats, more NON ALLOY than aluminum. I got a lot of funny looks when I asked about welded aluminum boats at the shows in Ohio and Michigan. Once in a while I got to see a patrol boat or other government boat, built like a brick _ _ _ _ house. After 6 months of web searches and traveling over 3 mid-west states to see boats and attend boat shows I finally saw a few. How to see more?? Go to where they build them. Seattle boat show, here we come. I knew the names of most of the major builders thanks to the web,and this site in particular, I found a couple of smaller builders to look at also. Cudo's to Gundog" for his posts on this site about his Wooldridge Pilothouse builds. Talked to lots of sales people and a few actual builders, got a bad case of mass confusion/ sticker shock. I visited the Wooldridge plant met Glen & Grant Wooldridge and found them very informative and easy to work with. Fast forward 5 months, and back to Seattle, decide between two boats 1 glass, 1 aluminum. I had the opportunity to talk with two current Wooldridge owners at the factory (they very happy with Wooldridge). Glass lost, aluminum alloy won, based mostly on the confidence of dealing with Glen & Grant Wooldridge. Oh yeah, they also build a very nice boat

Did you know that if you try to use the word fiberg_ _ _ the spell checker on this site automatically substitutes the words NONALLOY too coolI guess I will have to clean up my language.

How about a couple of pics??

Looks like I figured it out, thanks for the help Welder

No harm -No foul ----------- It is what I like most about these sites, everyone is here to help each other

I like the selection Smilies on this site, this one :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: accurately expresses the 3:00 AM learning curve on how to post pics. Then again if I hadn't been trying to learn it at 3:00 AM it might have come faster.

Wooldridge 29' out of the paint booth and looking pretty

The colors on the boat are medium gray with navy blue vinyl below.
The paint photographs with a blue cast because of shop lights I think. See the first pic 1051 for a true color
.

Hope you like the pics as much as I do, I can't wait to see it for real.

What size kicker are you going to use?

What are you going to use to control the steering on the kicker and Main?

Air Conditioning on a boat Sweet! Does it have a heat strip in it? Run on Shore power? and Generator? Diesel Stove Heater? More economical in MHO. Friend has one in his 26' NR Offshore. Works great. A dry Heat.

Forgot to say Sweet boat> I like it. Glen and you have produced a winner and a looker

Not quite sure what you are asking me about steer controls. But it has Hydraulic steering system with Garmin GHP-10 Autopilot
Yamaha F300UCA and a Yamaha T9.9XPA with tie bar so the auto pilot can control either engine.

The boat will have forced air Wabasto Heater and Defrost diesel cook top 30a shore power ,a Yamaha EF3000iSEB generator,
a Dometic 15000 BTU air conditioner (don't know if heat strip was an option from Dometic).

We will be using the boat as a trailer-able cruiser/ fishing machine, Ohio gets kinda icy in the winter so the plan is to drag her south for a month or so, hence the air conditioner.

It took me about a year and a half to get this far,and my head is still spinning. I don,t know if I could have enjoyed this boat build without the help of Glen and especially Grant Wooldridge.( I am the kind of guy that wants to pitch a tent in their parking lot so I can HELP THEM build the boat). These are no pressure people, tell them what you want the boat to do and they will figure out how to make it happen.

Maybe on my next boat build I will do the tent thing. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
