Another use for aluminum boats...

#1

Post by BrianW »

Part of my job, on Alaska's North Slope, is to run various boats for oil spill response. Here's the fleet...

Image

It includes 2 drop bows (45' and 55'), four 42 footers, a couple 38 footers, and another group of 25 footers. The drop bows are twin diesel/jet, the 25 footers are single diesel inboards, and the rest are twin diesel inboards.

There's a couple twin outboard 29ft boats, and some misc. boats not pictured.

All aluminum, and fun to drive.

Yep, we're pretty sure the polar bears think they're the biggest tusks on the biggest walrus they've ever seen. :)

It's not a bad way to make a buck. The Beaufort Sea isn't the most exciting place to go boating, but it's better than running a desk. :) The best part is that we switch boats often during the day, so it's always a bit different depending on the engine/drive combo.

Okay, this one was inland, and no boat was involved, but here's a sow grizzly and her cub...

Zoom out a bit, and it get's better. :)

We had to leave, but I know the sow didn't mess with the caribou, as there was no carcass around that evening.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
