I am trying to decide if I should repower this boat and fish it...Or sell it and buy a nicer boat...any idea of what it is worth?

It has a transom bracket but needs new motor.

That's a tired looking boat, I would not spend a dime on it if it were mine.

Jim George, welcome to the ABB.com Forum, sorry if my welcome is late and you've posted already - Welcome Aboard.

IN reply to your question- there's some serious "assumption" area taken in by the phrasing so I'll just remark looking at the few photos and my experience.

First, finish sells: even poorly made boats that are highly finished sell for more money than a sound boat that is poorly finished. Therefore; if the boat's bilges are clean, the metal sound and there is no corrosion or interior damage to the structure- (?? the boat is sound)- then; it could be worth while to keep her?

Second, not understanding any budgetary/financial/price points for your evaluation I'd mention that used boats with low cosmetic appearance may not go far buying a new welded boat?

Last I'd remark(s) the boat was designed/built/exists with a work boat look- and layout. So this even further reduces her potential resale market unless the commercial (or very serious fishermen) in your area are interested in a metal boat? I think I might saw off the existing hand railing - regardless of keep or sell, and redo that because it seems a little bit rough? I'm not sure if the joints are welded poorly or there are scaffold hand rail fittings used ? but regardless the design of this railing detracts serious from her overall lines.

Regardless, if you keep or sell the boat it won't hurt her to have the metal cleaned. I'd consider an acid wash, (maybe some serious paint remover action along the bow chain plate and the sheer's topsides stripe too?) to clean up the surfaces before bothering to use acid on whatever created those yellowish stains? Second, I'd consider looking at the 'corners' or the many place the boat has a square angle extrusion like the fish hold, hatch cover, cabin corners and various details.

I'd consider reworking some of these to 'soften' or round them a bit- rebuilding a hatch cover is a bench top project, for instance, but will help with the entire fish hold's appearance. IF the windscreen is glass (it could be cleaned) that's one thing, if its plastic and fogged(?) replacing it will make her more appealing, and safe to use! The cabin sides could use a little stiffening -1/2 pipe or bent material will go along way to dampen any flexure form this lightly built structure.

So, while I can't see the economic equation for her in your area, don't know her former use or potential market- and therefore, I can't predict her exchange value in a sale/purchase of another boat: regardless of her relative value(?)\ that figure will go up with some work to clean her up. Soften a few of the details, and add some metal work here and there to improve some of the original design implementation will improve the boat's overall appearance for either use or sale.

If I were surveying the boat, I'd want inside a boat of this age; many one - off builders made serious errors in construction that may impact her value. If you're not familiar with these considerations and you plan to sell; I'd suggest a marine surveyor who has a good reputation with metal boat sales. (Note: not all that easy to find depending on your geographic location!!)

Cheers,

If it were 6-8 ft longer I might take it off your hands. There are people looking for project boats, so I don't think you'd have a problem selling it...but it comes down to what price you're willing to part with it for.

I love your boat. I live on the great lakes and want to have a boat like yours. Could you tell me the make, model? More pics would be awesome!
