Halibut season is open and I thinking of heading to Anacortes/Washington Park next week(closure on T and W) and doing some fishing. Any suggestions and other other fish to go after while in that area great to meet you. Anyone been fishing around there? PM me for phone and possible schedule or any other reason! Warm regards, Capt PJ

Les
Tommy aka cornfed, his GFC, his boss, and I are headed to Neah Bay on Wednesday for three days of fishing on his dad's 35' plastic boat. Saught after species of fish are the Halibut (1 per day with Thursday and Saturday open), Ling Cod (2 per day T, F, and Sat. and Rock Fish (up to 15 per day no more than 10 of the same species) fill the freezer trip. we all have or Canadian Lic. to fish there on Friday. That make me hungry.

Neah Bay is always a blast. I was out there freediving last month for the lingcod opener. We loaded up on rockfish, lings, scallops, and limpets. That area is never a bust because there are always plenty of Black rockfish around to keep you busy.

They charge us $106 Canadian for an annual license. The rules were recently changed so we have to physically drive to canada and buy the license in person if we want to fish halibut out of Neah Bay.

Report! We cuaght our limit of rockfish the first day out...one each and we couldn't seem to find anything else to keep..drats! The second fishing day (Mom's Day) out we gave it a good shot at Hein Bank for halibut along with 5 other boats...didn't see a thing landed. By the time we made our way back to some bottomfish areas the current was too strong to even give it a try...so much for the fishing. Now the boat...she was great and it appears she burns about 2.7 GPH at 18 to 21 knots SOG depending on current conditions...she is running 4K revs. The tilt and trim made the ride much better thru the chop but the real advantage was the trim tabs to level her up and stick her nose in the chop created by the rips, didn't need to touch the throttle at all...this was nice! She is dry and throws the water well away which was really good crossing Rosario with some wind and moving water building a bit of a tight lump and wind chop. It was good to have the roller trailer as at low tide the ramp end is exposed with a drop off that I didn't want to pull out of with the camper on board. She slid right in with a mighty shove. That was at WA Park launch ramp. Saturday we skipped fishing and went to the Trawler Fest in Anacortes and out to dinner. I'll post some pics of ALLOY boats that were being shown...funny thing I noticed all the ALLOY vessels were seaworhty rascals for 32' to 70'...more on that later! We had a good time and broke her in with blood in the box and filets in the pan...tastey!!! Capt PJ

What crazy regulations. I thought us californians had it bad. At least you can fish on some days. We can still fish for rockfish they just closed all the rocky spots :banghead: (MLPAs).

Here's a shot of the Lowrance on the Juan de Fuca...dead calm and swell was not distinguishable on Mom's Day. Water temp and COG and SOG coming up on Hein Bank! NO fish that day! Capt PJ
