Coming Home to Washington

#1

Post by hipacboats »

It was a sad day yesterday when I dropped off my V23 to me shipped from Maui to Washington. (With the price it costs I seriously considered welding up a mast and sailing it myself!) But its going to be a happy day when I pick it up in Seattle, and catch my first Salmon. I got a job with a Fire Dept. in my home town on the Kitsap Peninsula and although the water is colder I look forward to fishing, boating, and welding in my home town. I know a few of you are living in the area and I would like to know how you set up your Pacifics to be salmon catching machines. I grew up over there throwing buzz bombs out from Point no Point with boat envy watching the guys with the boats hooting and hollering as they were catching their limits. Soon that will be me, my dad, and my little boy. I can't wait. expect some fishing and tackle questions from me in the near future.

Here's to salmon on the BBQ,
Kevin

Forget about the salmon and get your outriggers ready for tuna!. I dumped my downriggers years ago. Now the only thing I use salmon rods for is casting swim baits to jumpers and working the paddies in hope of a Mahi Mahi or Yellowtail.

Heres a fish we caught last September off of Westport Washington, It should look familiar.

Would it be cheaper to sell your 23 there and have Julie Build you a new one ?

Welcome back to the NW!

Where in Kitsap?

We're all expecting a pretty strong season on the coast for the salmon and hopefully the albacore are in range.

Chaps,
I'll be living in Poulsbo and working out of Bremerton. I was thinking of fishing the sound, but the coast and albacore sound great too!

Lester,
I am attached to the one I got, I can't let her go it even if it was for a new one.

Bob,
Mahi, and yellow fin. Really? 2 great eating fish that I would love to get a hook into. Maybe I shouldn't sell my Hawaii gear before I leave.

Mahi Mahi are not very common but they do catch a few when the conditions are right. We don't have yelllowfin but the occasional yellowtail is caught. They are usually pretty small, but last year a few in the 30lb range were caught off of the Oregon coast. It is a member of the jack family and they are delicious. Most of the guys with trailerable boats start fishing southern Oregon in June and work there way north with the warm water.

I would definitely keep a couple of heavier setups. A bunch of guys are planning on targeting bigger tuna this year and there are some huge thresher sharks around to test your gear on.

Damn Global climate change!!
I know ya'll are hating the fact that the currents are changing and the waters warming.
Maybe someday soon Ya'll will be Bonefishing with a fuzzy wooley booger, or Lefty's Deciever.

every documentary I see says;

-Too many Dams, obstacles
- Habitat gone
- mixing hatchery/ocean farmed fish, carrying disease

kinda par for the course, be it either lies or just the way the world works, today.
But replacement troops maybe on their way soon.

Marlin......good for ya'll!

There are only two ways to post a NON ALLOY boat on here and one of them is to have a large fish in the picture.

And the other is

Showing Alloy CRUSHING non alloy :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Bubba, put the new rod holders as low as you can and don't gimme any back talk.

That does REALLY draw for the boat owner though. All those screws in a straight line will probably make for a good WEAK spot.

Perhaps the boat was going to be used in cold weather and the owner wanted to stud the boat bottom for ice protection?!?!?

a "prank" using an old beat up P.O.S.

Hey, who started this HIGH JACK of Hipacs post anyhow....?
It wasn't me this time.

------------------------------------------

I didn't get the WHY leaving Hawaii?

So, what happens to being a Pacific dealer? You were the Pacific Ocean "dealer" for Pacific boats, right?
Did any Hawains/japanese, order any boats? (I can't spell what I have never seen...sorry)

Maybe ship it to the south? And I can sell mine and get a new boat as a demonstrater??
