Grease For Your Outboard

What are you guys using to grease your motors?

Alloy,

Red so called "waterproof sh-t", I buy at Harbor freight, the local chinese tool store.

Same-same for trailer bearings.

But I hear great stuff about Amsoil greeze.
I'm around and my boats right here and it never sits for all that long.....well it just sat for the longest ever just this month, 3 weeks with no calls, but I cut my prices in half and now I'm magically back in business.
Not making any dinero, but back on the water.

A lot of businesses are not making a ton but if you are keeping the funnel full then you're doing well...........chin up it's only gonna be for the next few years :shock:

I use Valvoline Moly EP for Ford/ Lincoln on everything I have.

Been using it a Loooooog time.

In case you were wondering?

There is a Valvoline Moly EP for Ford/ Lincoln and another for GM/Mopar.

The reason is Ford/ Lincoln has a Mil spec on it. They have a higher standard.

yet when you think about wheel bearings Timkin or BCA make all the bearings for everything. :)

I remember you telling me that was what you used for your wheels, but I didn't realize you are also using that on your motor. How often do you grease your motor?

water proof grease, I know but dosn't it sound funny....

I used some kind of blue thick grease on my old 50 yammy power tilt piston motor assembly that was corroding away by the recommendation of an old fella I know. The new assembly was close to 900 bucks installed. So I went with the grease and it caked on there like nothing and kept that old one working fine without totally falling apart with rust etc. Sorry I don't remember the name of the stuff.

About twice a year I grease everything.

This brings up another subject that is a pet pev of mine.

Grease Guns.

There are 2 handed grease guns and 3 handed grease guns.

Yes. You need a flex hose to get to tight areas.

If you put a flex hose on this stile grease gun it is now a 3 handed grease gun. But there is only one problem. You only have 2 hands.



But if you buy a pistol grip and add a flex hose it's a 2 handed grease gun.

Buy a pistol grip gun.

Here's a link to a thread I started a few years back when I got a new trailer. I have used the Schaeffer 274 for about 3 years now, I just repumped my bearings this weekend and the old stuff coming out looks as good as the new stuff going in.

Hello All !

Grease for your outboard......Hmmmmmm I'll let the cat out of the bag......when the sea can get at it OMC Triple Guard is desingned especially for it. I buy a case at a time and recommend it to any that I have serviced. It has extremely good water proof quality. Lubraplate and the likes all have their places but the sea is not one of them, they are not waterproof.
