Boating magazine test of Pacifc 23' Supertop

#1

Post by MacCTD »

Got the July/August issue of Boating magazine, what a surprise to see a test of the Pacific 23' supertop.
Half page article, basically says how well made it is and how tough it is, it is on page 45.
They tested it with a 250hp Suzuki, top speed was only 44 mph, thought they were faster than that with that power, great mileage though. 3.4 mpg at 25mph, 3500rpm.

I get about the same top speed on a 23HT with a Yammy 225.

5400 rpm at WOT seems a bit low. I suspect if they dropped down to a 19 pitch prop, performance would go up. What do you guys think?

Probably would perform better
5500-6100 RPM recommended WOT

Did Jay choose the prop?

I thought it was strange the boat in the picture has a Honda on it and test says they had a Suzuki, almost makes you wonder if they really tested it.

What the hell was the writer thinking to suggest an equivalent boat would be one of those plastic molded Triumphs. That guy ought to be drawn & quartered comparing a Pacific to one of those turds.

I have not been on a 23 ST , have but have tested 23 HT with 225 Honda power touching 50 mph with 4 people on board and a 23 with 250 Suzuki power with 2 people exceeds that speed easily . I tested a 26ST with 300 Suzuki power that went over 50 mph nicely in a good chop , all speeds were ground speed by GPS .

test speeds depend on prop selection and other factors ,seas, wind ,tide ,current, etc . I know when Jay delivers a boat rigged that it has been properly tested for maximum performance , sea trials and prop adjustments make sure that the customers specific requirements have been addressed before he gives you the Boat !

as far as that article goes ,looks like a file photo and telephone journalism , an actual test would presumably have first hand photo's of the actual visit and include description of locations of test and weather conditions . Who ,What , Where .

National exposure is great for the Product . New Plate Alloy fans are made ,not born , so any publicity is good publicity if people are introduced to Alloy Boats that might not otherwise have the oppertunity . IMHO .

I have no idea where that article came from - I never spoke with the magazine! 44mph top end? Cast? Weird....
