Hi Folks,
I was speaking with a boat designer today and he told me that a 32' outboard boat would take approx. 1500 hours to build in an experienced shop... What do you think?
Also what percentage of build cost is Raw materials, Labor, Purchased (off the shelf) materials?
Thanks
Rick
Build Hours
Re: Build Hours
I can't be of any help on build time, but in regards to raw materials go to specmar.com and look at the materials weight they list for their boats. When I built mine it cost me about $3.50 per lb. to buy the plate and have it cut on a water jet.

Rick, PM reelsong. He is a new member here, but is building his own boat. Very well done if I might add. I would be willing to bet he has a wealth of the type of info you are looking for. Here is a link to his thread.Challenge wrote:Hi Folks,

Re: Build Hours
Rick , I just read this post and I think 1500 hours if your a welder fabricator is realistic, I'm at about 1000 rt now and I could see another 500 in finish, paint, upholstery and finish. PM me if you want figures but would really rather not post those, to many great builders on this site trying to make a living.

Re: Build Hours
1500 hr is not unrealistic..its kind of depends on the level of finish work. We always seem to do ok on time building the hull and cabin, but then get killed with the finish work. Think 3 experienced guy could build a nice boat in 3-4 months
