That maybe more than "we" need to know.....

Is it safe to assume that the interior cabnets etc are all aluminum if painted with Zolatone? That's what I'd like if I had a cabin'ish boat. If they can do that. I want everything welded alloy and zolatoned, like that.

But, I think the "beam" of that bad azz was lacking. I'll guess 10'6"???

What the heck was Chaps thinking????

C'Cmon Chaps, chime in.

Thanks for the cabin pics, cuz I was wondering what it looked like inside.

Wonder what it would cost to get my console done in Zolatone "marbley-blue"??

Capt. Dave,

3/16 rounded up .190

Very nice boat. Only been on a Cat once, and it was a glass boat. Sliced through the water, and had a hell of a ride. It was a Glacier Bay 26.

Not sure of your question Dave but the beam is about 8'10" as I recall, mainly for trailering. It wasn't my spec, I would have gone a bit wider but the boat was already tacked up when I stumbled across it at Maxweld. It was being built for someone else who had to bail out so I grabbed it since it was pretty close to what I was looking for. Great performing boat as designed and wonderful to fish off of.

The interior is all welded & painted. Not a rattle or squeak anywhere.

How about some outside shots? Do the windows open and allow air flow?

I'd like to see a better shot down below in the berth area.

How is is getting a Cat style boat on and off the trailer?

Trailer:

Motor On and Motor Off-Easy.

Big windows open and we have a forced air heater that also operates on fan mode to blow ducted air through out the boat cabin.

Economy? What is that? Do you want the cost per pound of fish or total expenses of operation a year?

Fuel economy is not something I give much thought. Sorry, I don’t really know what it is.

Hell, I never really pay attention. If I did; I would be depressed and never fish.

I will check are log book next time we are out.

What would you guess?

What economy do you get or expect to get on your rig?

This is just a guess, but I would say at 30mph you would be burning 15+gph, so 2+/- mpg. Just a guess, though. I hope to get 2mpg. I will watch the fuel management guage like a hawk. It is amazing to see how a change of 200 rpm can effect economy. I want to maximize my range. If you calculate how much the fish costs per pound it will be cheaper to buy it. My time on teh water is therapeutic and therapy is expensive! :)

Hey Night Hawk,

Sweet rig!!! I like their cats...

What other cats did you look at, and why did you choose Maxwell over them?

Can you post some pictures of the transom, bow, bottom, interior of the hull compartments and construction.

Have you gotten a chance to run her and see what speed you get at what RPM?

A friend of mine has a 32' Maxcat and that boat is really amazing. He's still running comfortably at 25 knots when everyone else is slugging it out with big wind waves and bigger swell conditions. His has twin diesels with hamilton jets so we never bring up the words "fuel economy" unless we want to see him get very sad. Then again, he can run into any cove along the Sunshine Coast or SE Alaska without too much concern.

They are truely amazing boats!

Marty
Looked at Moose, Armstrong, Glacier Bay and World Cat.

When we were prop testing our top Speed was 39 knots.

With our current props our RPM's exceed our flow-scans tack range of
6000 rpm. So, instead of pegging our tacks and trying to find the rev limiter or grenade our motors we just figure that our current props are close enough.

Current top speed is about 36 knots.

Our best fuel economy occurs around 4400 rpm @ 26 knots (17 gph).

Our recent trip back from the islands, I recorded 1.45 mpg (18 gph) at 4500 rpm and 28 knots, but that was with no wind waves and very little swell and running with it.

These figures are for both motors total.

I think our current props are 15 x 15 SS 3 blades. These props give us awesome hole shot and plenty of low end power for our big ocean swell conditions. We often run with 4-5 people, lots of gear and both fish boxes loaded with water, fish, crab and/or bait, so I don't mind sacrificing a little top end speed.

Besides, we have never been passed by another boat in the ocean. :D

** As a side note- one of our flow scans bounces between rpm ranges (on the list to get looked at).
