I ran a special 16 hour offshore marathon trip to an offshore ledge on Saturday August 20th. I partnered with another Captain and we ran his 31' JC as the grounds were over 70 NM..just too far for my Pacific. I haven't been there for a while but my numbers were as good as ever. Non stop action all day long with cod, haddock and pollack coming aboard as fast as the guys could reel them aboard. We hooked a tuna on a cod rod and lost him at the boat when the hook pulled. He looked to be in the 50" class. The most excitement occurred when we landed 3 halibut in the morning. Two were released alive and well after photos and this 60lb+ fish found his way into the box. First time I have ever been on a rec trip where three halibut have been landed. Some monster blue dogs showed up in the PM but they didnt bother us too much. Best news not a single dogfish was seen all day..it was worth the long ride just to not have to deal with those things for a day.
Great day on the water and halibut on the grill tonight!
