Aluminum Boston Whaler

#1

Post by hipacboats »

I went salmon fishing this morning and was coming through Agate pass and saw an Alloy Boston Whaler that looked like a 21 Guardian. Has anyone ever heard of this Whaler being made commercially?

I'm a closet Whaler fan (sssh... not too loud) and have never heard of Whaler building anything aluminum. Maybe it's an aluminum knock off. I know there are several glass Whaler "clones" out there. :skipper: If you are really interested check out this die -hard Whaler site... continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea Good luck.

I'm going to take a pic my next time going by. It had whaler decals on it and and looked to be professionally constructed. Government maybe?

Hmmm... Whaler stickers are easy enough to come by. Now you have me really curious. Can anyone confirm that Whaler made an aluminum boat? I'm still thinking, "no."

Ah Yes, kind of.
Whaler is owned by the Brunswick corp. they use to have an aluminum/government boat division. If you go on the current whaler /Brunswick sight you can find a small blurb about there aluminum boats. It looks like they have formed some sort of deal with Metal-craft. More of your tax dollars leaving the country.

Here's an auction that's ended for an aluminum whaler. Though the picture is hard to tell. The brunswick sight isn't working for me to check out the info there. Interesting though. I always thought the viking try-hull was kind of cool.

Like the picture Chaps posted above Boston Whaler (pre-Brunswick) had an aluminum boat division that made boats in Marysville, WA (same town as Pacific Skiffs is in now) My friend Paul Hureaux (subsequent founder of Maritime Skiff) who used to work for Whalers commercial and government division back then said thay made something like a dozen or so boats.

They all looked like Chaps picture, though - no cathedral bottoms like other Whalers.

Currently, Brunswick's Comm and Govt Group just signed a co-op agreement with MetalCraft Marine to market aluminum boats but MetalCraft will make all the boats (as far as I know).
