BOE Purchase

#1

Post by goatram »

Ordered up the New HDS 10 Gen 2 Fishfinder/chartplotter with the insight maps along with a new 50/200 transponder, A Structure Scan Sounder and a LGC 4000 GPS Antenna. Tomorrow BOE starts a sale 5% off. They did not have the HDS LSS-1 Bundle available yet for shipment It so i preordered it separately and it will be shipped tomorrow. Lowrance has a Boat show special of a $300 rebate when you by the sounder separately. The bundle was listed at $2,512. Cost with the sale price separately is $2580.61 - the $300 = $2280. I need to replace the the GPS puck that comes internally with the HDS cause of the Aluminum Roof.

My old LCX 113C HD unit with the new Transducer, LGC 3000 Antenna, Rim 300 cable for Radar power and a Fishing Chip I think I sold for $1000. Will find out later tonight.

I Test Drove the HDS Unit at the Puyallup Sportsman Show and at the Seattle Boat Show. The Zoom in and Out is Wickedly fast. Instant pictures pop up. The track back is cool, The ability to overlay the Structure Sound to your maps might be cool but it might clutter up the screen with too much info.

I am going to keep the LRA 1800 HD Radar and not upgrade to the 3G Broadband Radar.

Question that arose was Which fuel flow do I use? I currently have the EP-60R fuel flow sensor and I also have the Lowrance Engine Monitoring Cable. Does the Monitoring Cable produce the Gallons Used per trip like the EP-60R?

No, I don't know. In fact I need some help getting my engine and fuel stuff displayed properly. I'm so dense when it comes to networked boat electronics . . . my idea of a technical breakthrough was loranC, never quite figured that out either. OK, I'm overstating my ignorance a bit but not by much . . .

I upgraded to a P66 improved version. I bought it from Simperfifishing on the Hull Truth. Currently the LCX I have now does not read the Water Temp. I will report back to you Bob cause I am headed back down to the Boat Show Friday. Nice day Forecasted

Good. That is a good transducer. I had one with my Lowrance (big improvement over the OEM) and I now have one with my Furuno. Semperfifishing is a neighbor of mine...just a few miles down the road.

Well I received the HDS and Sounder plus the LGC 4000 antenna Thursday, Radar came in Friday. Spent the Evening looking at and stroking my new toys as well as registering it with Lowrance's website. Stoked for the morning and installing the system.

Looks like my radar Mount will be Too Small for the new 3G radome. Might have to make a wider base plate or a new one. That will suck and slow down the process. Neat thing is the Radar has no Black box to mount the sounder can take its spot if the wires will stretch.

Now to decide where to mount the Structure Scan Sonar as well on the Transom like the sounder were it is always in the water even at speed and on plane or Higher up to protect it. so it only is in contact when trolling.

I got side tracked by Vance aka Dagonballs. I found out he had Tower Todd and Marlin Mike over and I got side tracked. It was cold, wet and windy today so I spent the afternoon over there rather than on my carport. :rotfl:

Jay I have the Lowrance cable already hooked to my Network. I will be disconnecting the EP 60 Fuel Flow meter shortly. I now have my Shop back so tomorrow I get to place my boat back in it and finish my install. Friday I got the Sonar 10' Extension cable that I ordered from BOE. Great Service I shall Say on their behalf.

"It was cold, wet and windy today so" Today it was more of the same. So I spent the afternoon again over at Vance's house Watching work performed.

Yes I do! to answer your question.

I am still playing with the boat Now it is back in the shop. Just got back running errands. Yesterday hooked up the Sonar Transducer to the transom, The Washdown Pump is in and wired, figured out the location for the SSS Black Box. Need to cut and install the SS BB on a piece of Aluminum and then mount it in the Fwd Compartment's Ceiling. New Radar is on but looks strange due to the white and gray contrasting colors. Looks tilled way down fwd.

We did.
Ken's boat picked up a knot in speed and ran well. His thru hull for his bait tank worked well and continued to pump at max speed. He was quite happy with it. The deck drained well so it was a winner all around.

Mine; I changed the prop and that lost 2 MPH (I use MPH I was never a Navy Boy) So that prop is coming off. Now I am in search of a 15 1/4 X 19 SWS II Prop. RPM with the SWS II 15 X 21 was 5400. Deck Drained well. I did have issues with my Electronics. The HDS does not power the NMEA 2000 Backbone. Had to hook up a Power chord to a T. Also the Autopilot was not getting Nav Data. Found a plug on the Simnet not fully seated it works fine now on the trailer. I need to Splash it one more time to finish my ops checks.

The Radar is Awesome, Spot on right out of the box! The HDS 10 Gen 2 fast zooming in and out. Amount of detail in the maps is great. Need a lot more time getting use to all of the features that it gives me. The P66 transducer now reads the correct water temp and marks the bottom and fish with better results than the Lowrance Ducer did that I remember. I cross checked the Ducer with the Sonar. The Structure Scan Sonar is neat as well. Again I need to spend seat time getting used to it so I can Interpret it faster.

Thanks for the report goatram. Glad everything worked out on Ken's boat. You are a braver man than I for installing electronics (I'm horrible at electrical). Glad to here you like the radar and HDS 10 Gen2. Play around with them some more. I'm thinking a need quite a few more trips before I get the full understanding and potential of the structure scan.

What's the unit on the far right of the picture? a temp sensor?

Cheers,
John

I thought they were 'BACKUP' sensors that you ripped off the Ford bumper!!! :rotfl:

Looks like you installed 90* lip on the inboard side of your trim tab...what does that do?
