Tuna
Just so John aka Sculpin and Dav will not be complaining. I did commit a mortal Sin Yesterday. I was called Thursday night at work by an owner of a 282 Grady White with twin Yamaha F250. Do I wanna go Tuna Fishing. Hell Yes but; The weather was predicted to get worse Saturday. I questioned that. His answer was he would be watching the weather and the final decision
would be made on Friday. Hit was a go. The ride out in the 6' swell and the 1 to 2' wind wave was nice. My Sin was I enjoyed the Clorox Bottle Boat I had as Jimmy Carter Said Lust in my heart for the boat. Back to the tuna. We had a good day; blood was flying and our faces were speckled with it. We Trolled and found the fish and called a buddy boat to us A third boat heard the call so with in a mile of each other the three boats fished and Caught. We plugged the boat with 47 Alabcore Tuna.
The picture shows 46 but when the Fish Box was cleaned one more was found under the ice.
We used Tuna Clones and X Raps to find the schools and then went to Big Hammer Swimbaits and the Lowly Anchovie as bait during the Bait Stops.
One Lamiglas Rod and Avet reel is now swimming with fishesIf, If you have Rod Butts that are Bare use a Heat shrink wrap on the bole. After I lost the Rod and reel Someone else almost lost his the same way. Tuna Blood is slippary.
I only took one picture and this is it. My Droid was put up so I would not loose it.

Re: Tuna
EPIC tuna trip man !!!!
Very jealous John. I have bought a lot of tackle this winter and spring and have it ready on the boat. Just waiting for a good weather window and work to slow down a bit. Some guys out of Tofino have been nailing some last week during the week. The best I heard was 15 in one trip with 3 guys on board a 22 Weldcraft Coastal King.
I hear you on the sin of liking the ride on a nice big, heavy, fuel sucking, clorox bottle . They are pretty nice riding in the rough stuff for sure.
Too bad about the lost rod but shite happens man. Great report and I look forward to reading more from you this year......
Cheers,
John

Re: Tuna
Jamie next month I am there on Float 6L. Hopefully the water will calm down for the smaller boats. I will be down on the weekend. Fishing Saturday and Sunday. I will be down from the 8th thru the 12 fishing the Washington Tuna Classic on Saturday the 11th. Will be taking some of the Wounded Warriors fishing on Friday and or Sunday. Fourth year in a row for that.
Your boat by the Registration is a 29' not including your anchor Pulpit. When they argue get the Coast Guards input. Sunday the Bar was closed to 30' and below Ask them what your size is and they will tell you their interpretation of your length and that should shut up the two ladies in the Marina Office

Re: Tuna
Shame on YOU.
Now what do ya'll do with them? Do you drag them behind the boat and then slit the throat latch and bleed 'em out?
As per Sculpin, you must take care of your catch.
Every tuna (blackfins here) which are similar in size and all as those are. Will be bloody messes.
I have to admit, I'm a neat-nik and really don't like messy fishing.
Especially when it's MY boat.

Re: Tuna
Shame On Me For????? The Fish are Bleed and then Packed in Ice and Sea water is added to make a slush. When back at the dock they are taken out and photo's are taken then the fish are repacked in flake ice for the trip home. These were caught on Saturday and my 9 where processed/cleaned and bagged the next day and the fish was given to our friends.

Re: Tuna
Elaine the co-captain (she being the boss of charlie) is on it as soon as the Bait Stop is done. She is washing and scrubbing the boat and us down. When we got back to the dock the four of us (crew) took care of the fish and Ice and her and charlie scrubbed the boat with soap and water.

Re: Tuna
Always a good idea to clean the boat ASAP. I didn't bother cleaning my boat for a week after a salt water adventure & forgot that I had a 1/2 gallon of clams in the rear livewell. It was not a good time cleaning that mess.
Re: Tuna
Nice work John sorry about the rod ! I will be in Westport for the WTC going to help out and display the Duckworth (they are paying for expenses) probably fish Tuna on Sunday with Harold or Salmon on my boat see you down there

Re: Tuna
Jay I will be down on Wednesday going to fish salmon on that day and either Thursday and or Friday depending on weather. Friday the Soldiers from Fort Lewis will be down to help out and will be looking for some of us to take them fishing for Salmon. Sunday the guys will be available to fish as well. They got to be back at the dock by like 2pm. Hopefully you will be available Sunday. You will have fun and Duckworth or Three Rivers will pay for the Fuel. A few pictures for them to post as well.

Re: Tuna
I am still working Pete.
Went fishing on Saturday on my boat for tuna. only got 3 due to me stopping 5 miles short, plus I had a puker on the boat, did manage to catch 3 tuna. could not get a bait stop going because of the puker would not rally. He stayed hunched down on the front seat eyes closed. My son's first tuna

Re: Tuna
Curious on why the tuna is hanging over the bucket?? Is blood in the water a "No-No"?? Can you tie a rope around the tail & drag them behind the boat at head-way speed for a few minutes to bleed them out??

Re: Tuna
Sabs The Tuna need to be bleed ASAP so as soon as they come aboard we cut or rip the gills and then toss them into the brown trash can on the swim step. I have the water running into it to rinse the blood away. The fish was gaffed and gills were cut while it was still on the gaff. My son grabbed the tail and his friend took the picture and it was dropped into the bleed bucket.15 to 20 minutes later we cut off it's head and removed the guts then stuffed into the ice in the fish hold. After it has been on Ice for a day or so the meat is real firm and can easily be processed.
