I do the same......when needing to get a shark bait far from the boat I use a Balloon tied to the rig and float it out.
Then I grab my Sheridan Air Rifle (.20 cal./5mm) and shoot the balloon and let the rig drop to the bottom.
I'm very successful at a long distance. Just depends on how much the boats bouncing. So that ship is cheeze cakin it.
