Rock Salt Cabins - Your opinions wanted...

#1

Post by Jay Perrotta »

We're heading to a military show in early June and are blowing up some drawings for display purposes.

I'd value your opinions on which one of the following two looks better:

cab forward

I like the cab forward design better. Most of the salty boats up here in AK have gone to this design. It really cuts down on the glare from the sun, too.
Spending my kids inheritance with them, one adventure at a time.

Is it worth enlarging them both showing the versatility in your alloy build?

Maybe the show is good place to get feed back?

My vote, probably based on what I have seen of your market to large degree would be the forward facing wheel house.

# 1 hands down, those little windows are needed for military operations.

Forward windows, for sure Jay....classic and makes the spray "roll down" when going 70 MPH rather that up.

My opinion is the same as the others; the forward leaning windows.

Jay: Forward leaning is the only way to go - lots of advantages and as far as I can tell no disadvantages.

One more for the forward leaner. I would also like to see one of your Super Tops with a forward leaning windshield.

Aerodynamically speaking :D the second pic would give less wind resistance which would equal a bit more speed with same HP as #1.........I think 8)

With that being said I really like the looks of #1

Now, how can we put the #1 style cabin (but smaller) on a 26 hull for my next boat

Big cabin down below, wide gunnels to walk around, a convertible dinette/bunk in the upper cabin, and a wide sliding door aft all on a 26' trailerable hull YES!!!

A new Pursuit 33 os or SF 34 with f350's options and electronics is going to run from about 210 to 260, depending on conditions. Where will the rocksalt come in pricewise?

Marty,
How do you set anchor on your boat? Do you have a windlass?

One thing that always bothered me (fishing alone) was walking to the bow to set the anchor........

Thnks for the input - we'll be enlarging both after we're done with the illustrator...

Alloytoy,
I keep my anchor in my cockpit deck box and deploy it over the side, then walk the rope to the front cleat and tie it off back on the side cleat so I can walk the boat back over different pieces. Then I use the anchor ball and ring to retreive. I did not want all that anchor, chain, rode, and windlass weight up front. The ball and ring works great in any depth water.
Right now I a carring 600' of 5/8" rode and 900' of 3/8 rode. Not enough to anchor in the canyon, but shark fishing on a 200' -300' its good to go.

In this picture you can see the deck hatch is 17" x 22"

I concur. Forward leaning cabin looks better. It vaguely resembles the cabins on some Safeboats.

Are the machine guns an option or standard? :D I vote for the forward leaning cabin.
