Hey Bob:
Looking at the photo in post #24, do you think we should just run the bottom paint right up to the bottom line of the blue paint?
Cheers,
Mike

I'd like to see how she sits on her lines. Is that vinyl on the hull sides or is it paint?

We were going to go with vinyl--but changed over to paint on advice from John (JJ 225).

Paint VS Vinyl ?

#29

Post by kmorin »

Napa Mike, would you take a minute to post a few lines on your research and reasoning about paint vs vinyl?

Thanks, I've not paid much attention and would be very interested to add to my knowledge on the two top coats.

Personally, if I was going to order again I'd go w/out any paint or vinyl. Just end up getting scratched as I mentioned to Mike. Even just the drive down from Seattle saw a few rock dings. Then there's the occasional dock rash.

Hey Kevin:
To be honest, I did not do much research beyond talking with John and inviting myself to his test-ride (he graciously allowed me and my Pops to come along). My initial thought was less paint equals less problems with bubbling/peeling paint, etc. But, in light of John's experience, we opted for paint well above the waterline. Chaps is going to give her a bottom job--he is the man for that :-)

Cheers,
Mike
