PACIFIC/BLM - stern cutting table/snack tray

#1

Post by JETTYWOLF »

Alrighty, this may not hold a candle to the Aussie/New Zealander version of a stern cutting table-rod holder-sinker tray-air foil.

But because I saw S.L. Dave's in his pics last night a went out into the garage and quickly worked me up a version of his table on his new boat.
Although he says his is removeable with a bolt configeration.

Mine is on there and would have to take the screws out to take it off.

But, since I didn't have any Starboard just laying around, I used PVC board that was left over from a home repair job. Which by the way in Florida...never rots. And is my preferred "fake wood" from now on.

My tools consist of a hacksaw blade, a few screw drivers, mics. SS screws, a magnum size dremel like tool (roto-zip) oh so handy for the NON ALLOY boat owner that I used to be. And a Sawzall, and a vice.

This was the trial. I'll probably get some Satrboard pieces and re-make the legs out of it, later on and when Dave shows me how to make it removeablem, like his with a pic.

On my boat, I'm sure this will become a snack tray for my "always eating something" customers. Until I lay a slab of sun dried Mullet on there and leave it all day long......   that'll fix that!

Yep, it's my sloppy workmanship and lack of any proper tool'age that has it just jiggling across if I want to push it that way.

That was an old 12x20' Magna "pole holder" fillet table, I took the adjustable pole holder dealy off. I even filled the bolt holes where the pole was with small discettes of PVC board chips left over from the job, and used big time water proof adhesive to hold them in. So to keep the surface without additional holes that may drain GOO on the deck or floor.

Not like I'm thrilled with GOO going on my platform, but thats what a washdown hose is for, right?

I'll keep that one there, and keep my monster one 16 x 31" in my console storage box for big j-o-b-s.

Capt. Dave,
You can put a small alum. "L" bracket with a hole thru it and drill a hole through the rail, then insert a pull pin to secure it.

I like the idea!! I'm sure I could trailer my boat wit it in place too. Right now I use a Magma rod holder mount.........marginally ok but I LIKE THIS!!!

I promise to get some detailed pics soon. The thing that makes this idea great is that it is snug. Doesn't move during trailering or on the water.

I hope I can make sense here.

Dave what you want to do is slice off the front of the legs - right where it meets the rail - you know right where the cutout for the rail starts. Then you can slip the whole board back and off. So take those pieces that you just sliced off and put them back on with a single screw in the center so that they can turn. If you turn them perpindicular to the legs (horizontal), you can slide your board in to position. Turn them back to straight up and down and the board is locked in place.

SL DAVE.........OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Okay.

Yeah I can do that if I make them out of touger Starboard next time. And use some heavier screws, because the Starboard can take the turning on the screws better than the soft PVC board.

I'll do a demo tomarrow, because I actually have a charter!!!!
Can ya believe that? And the gale force winds have laid down too.

Maybe my blood pressure will go down with the wind.

Alloy...that board ain't going no where. The babies on there. And no drilling of any holes on the boat. My cardinal rule is no holes, after I did that dumb chum chopper deal.

Still working on a welded chum chopper intergrated into the boat.
Yeah, that'll be nice.

S.L. Dave, I'll catch ya some sharks if so.

Thanks for the detailed photos. I might have to try one of those myself. Did you "loktite" the screw in to keep it from backing out when turning the piece of starboard?

Hey Tom,
I am not sure (since I can't take credit for making this) but, since the piece that is being turned is only going 90 degrees to the left to open...then back 90 degrees back to the right to lock I don't think that it is an issue. A little adhesive a few mm's below the head of the screw couldn't hurt. Good idea.

The holes were put there to stuff a hand towel in. It is a bit awkward to use for that, so for me they really have no purpose.

been using my board on that rail and took that unweildy 31x20 pole holder mounted one out of the boats storage locker.

I doesn't go NO where, and is just right. I like it.
Also serves other purposes.

I might also start talking funny too...like I'm from "down under" er something.

I'll just keep the pole holders in the gunnels.
