Re: Grand Banks Knot
They used the knot for making long lines...........numerous hooks snelled to a main line

Re: Grand Banks Knot
Thats EZ......ya mean "dropper loops"...ANDE line has a book that has knots in it and the dropper is in there, or used to be.
Not a "long line" if it was a long line it would be 21 miles long and have snaps holding the droppers and beeper buoys.
We call it a chicken rig, for Snapper fishing, the main stay of the head/party boat industry.
Here ya go......http://www.animatedknots.com/dropperloop/index.php
Except if ya want a double and then attach a hook thru the eye with the loop, make the dropper longer and use it as a leader.
Or you can cut one side and use the end of the dropper as a leader and then tie on a hook.
I use the loop as a leader, it stands the hook out stiffer.
And yeah, many folks tie them here for surf Whiting and Pompano fishing.
So easy, but people still buy then "Touristo rigs" with all the snaps, and dingle balls and brass arms, and trust a cheap azz snap to hold a good fish. NOT ME...
I can make 50 dropper loop rigs for what a "toursit rig" costs.

Re: Grand Banks Knot
A Grand banks Knot is close to a Stand-off Knot. You are basically snelling the main line around the end of the leader attached to the hook. Where the stand off requires half hitches usually 3 or 4.

Re: Grand Banks Knot
yep, and the dropper loop is the same thing.
Never comprimising the main line...as it's part of the whole knot/leader.
- cut one end at the knot to make 21CC's leader with fly.
Here's our Chicken rig. This guys calling the dropper loops a "spider hitch".
The best I can find for most knots including great knots for Braid:

Re: Grand Banks Knot
Winner ding ding ding :D There ya go 21CC that allows you to fish a stinger, hook bait etc at the depth of the jig, sinker etc.... and eliminates the hook from wrapping the main line. I've been told you have to use a heavier line for your stinger/hook leader than the main line.......now how do you tie that??
I use the dropper loops Dave, but they tend to wrap the main line and twist up on me..........

Re: Grand Banks Knot
Place the loop from the snelled hook alongside the leader loop. Holding the two loops firmly in one hand, take the long end of the leader line and tightly wrap ten turns around the two loops. Then take the long end and pass it through both of the loops. Anchor the hook, and slowly begin to draw up all three ends simultaneously. Before you draw it tight, moisten the knot, than draw it up snug. The resulting knot should have the snelled hook standing off the shock leader with the knot pointing the hook leader up. This is called a "stand-off" knot and will prevent the hook from wrapping around the main line as you drop to the bottom.

Re: Grand Banks Knot
Sound right but I need to tie it. Something tells me the snelled hook loop will pull out of the wraps
Re: Grand Banks Knot

Re: Grand Banks Knot
Hmm...I don't like that.
That sure does seem weak...adding an external line.
The dropper loop is "all" the same line. Does the same thing.
I guess whiting don't pull that hard.
