What is your dream boat?

#1

Post by rocky_taco »

These are the specs of my dream boat. A wolf open day cruiser, or Silverstreak open would be a good start. The only boats I can find around me are the typical ones: Lund, G3, Alumacraft, Smoker Craft, Crestliner, etc.

14-15’ open tiller
welded aluminum
Strong keel for beaching on rocks and/or breaking ice
The happy medium jack of all trades deadrise 10-16 degrees ??? (run in the K-zoo river and on lake MI when the wind is favorable)
anode mount
flat floor with moveable seats
rubber floor covering
running lights “head lights” to run at night
front and rear anchor - anchor sideways in the river
oar mount in the middle (standard location) for rowing and another at the rear to point the boat while float hunting or drift fishing.
spot to hold oars in the boat when not in use
down rigger mounts
room for 4 rod holders that can be relocated easily anywhere along the gunnel
rod rack that can hold 4 rods while towing the boat
25-25HP outboard prop with prop guard (troll from 0.5 - 3.5 mph and hold any speed between)
boat/motor/trailer package less than 800 lbs
little to no wood - boat will be stored outdoors
electric trolling motor
fish finder
2 cup holders

Anyone think of anything I might be missing?

a 22' cuddy with a open hardtop, just to keep the sun and rain off me
- 250 suzuki --- maybe on a off shore bracket
- 6" wide gunnel (non-skid)for getting up front -- through in some handrails also
- self bailing deck
- flared bow
- those teeth on the front for pushing logs (just to scare the glas boats)
- if you want to be really tricky make the cuddy removable so i can turn it into a bow rider for when i take the herd to the lake
-removable horseshoe seating in rear, that i can take out when i don,t have the herd and just want to fish with the guys

yeah baby that's what i want

It sounds like you've been putting some thought into this. I really like the versatility of the removable cuddy. The 6" gunnel would be a nice.

What exactly are the log teeth you are talking about? Do you paint the front up like the P-40 flying tiger?

I just stumbled across a V143T G3 Boat at an okay price. Not my "dream" boat. But, it's the closest to my dream boat in the area. Most of the stuff I'd really like to check out is on the west coast. It's a 3 hour drive to go see it. I've not seen a G3, so I'm not sure what the quality or build is like. Do you have any knowledge of the G3 boat?

I have been thinking of an answer to this thread.

One of these just showed up as a new tenant at my marina:

I think that this is pretty close to my "lottery fantasy" boat. I stuck a aluminumalloyboats.com card in his trailer hitch. I hope he stops by this site.

If you look at the pictures of the 30' recreational sport fisherman You will see the Dream Catcher from Ketchikan AK I spent a summer working on the dock where that boat and two others just like it fished out of. They were the most consistent fish killers on the dock. And I shoud know because I had to clean all of the fish.

Evidently my bank account is stunting my creativity. I'm not sure I'm even allowed to look at pictures of these boats, let alone dream of owning one.

Nice!

The coast guard came cruising through Pentwater lake on one of these. Maybe not ideal for fishing. but it was an impressive boat. They went through some very skinny water near a point and I've seen them head out into lake MI in some rough water. If I was going to get caught on Lake MI in bad weather, this is the boat I'd want to be on.

I know of no body of water that gets angry faster than the Great Lakes. A Safeboat is as bad azzzz as it gets. I saw a used 32 on yachttrader once for about $500,000 I think

Check this video out. They even make a small tiller boat. I don't see any information on their web page about it. But, it's shown in this video. There probably aren't too many tougher tillers out there.

Rocky

Re:log teeth ---you know on a working boat at the bow ,just above waterline up to the tow eye ,they put jagged 3/4 teeth welded on there for pushing thingsaround . Yeah a removable cuddy would be a dream for me, I can,t afford 2 boats so that would make it the perfect crossover boat, I only need a bowrider a few times a year ,skiing out of a cuddy sucks not enough room for people and gear
