CRUSHED THE BLACKIES!!!

#1

Post by Ironwoodtuna »

Well Cody and I got to the boat this weekend.

We went out saturday morning and arrived at the east end of the island by 7:00AM by 8AM we had out limit of four fish each (8-total) and started culling the small fish using our giant fish box as a live well. We ended up catching between 40-50 fish the smallest being 4.5lbs and largest going 9lbs. Then we went back to port and got squids and clams to go seabass fishing and got donunts!Zero, Zip!

Sunday morning we went bact to our spot and between 7AM and 8:00AM we had another 8 keepers with the largest going 9.75lbs. Cody had to do a project for school so at 8:30 we cull the smallest fish with a 6lber and headed home. Great fishing while we heard from the rest of the fleet was screaming and crying how terrible the fishing was including the party boat the MarlinIV who had ZIP!!! for the whole boat. We had super hot fishing, on greenies!

If was great to get back out on the girl and get some fresh fish, Cody filmed a half an hour or so, He will post it shortly. Marty

6ft to 12 ft seas made me stay inshore, and we were rewarded for doing so...once in a while it pays to listen to common sense instead of desire!

Have to respect mother nature. Hopefully this weekend will be better. I'm looking at getting out one more time this year. Haddock and cod hopefully. Bummer cod is now 2 and/or 75lb/boat.

Yo skippa, whats a Blackie? :?

I know what a Blue is. I knows what a Red, is.

But a "Blackie"?

I read Seabass, that's what I'd like to see more of. You have some big fat "Seabastards" up yonder. Greenheaded SOB's. And that was a zip huh?

No pics of the 200 gallon swimming pool for them?

C'C'C mon...

good to have ya back Marty! :D

Jetty,

Blackfish or Tautog both commonly used. The tautog is sort of a big cunner with buck teeth and a bad attitude.

Oh Togs, okay.
I know about them.

They are similar in attitude and diet as my "Jetty Snappers", sheepishly grazing the big granite rocks. IE: Sheepshead.

Yeap your right Jetty, they are somewhat cousins.

The sheepshead is a member of the porgy and seabream species. Where as a Tautog is a member of the porgy and Labridae species. So both are from the porgy family. However the tautog "mixed" a little more then the Sheephead. Both fish came from some what the new york area. Where the Tautog moved north and the Sheephead south. The Sheephead, named for coming from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and the Tautog named from the Narragansett Indians, I believe they spelled it a little different, then the short version now used.
I have to stop reading on the can. :?

Yeah I know they're not even closely related, just a giant Porgy. but every Northerner that gets on my boat when we're fishing clams and crabs for them in the spring time when they spawn and the big ones are on the feed bag, always mentions togs.

If they were named after some thing up that way, why doesn't anyone ever catch a sheepshead up that way?

I've always known them as a more southern fish.

Things that make ya say "Hmmmm :| "
