Day on the Hard Water

#1

Post by AlloyToy »

My boys and I loaded up the gear this morning for a day on the hard water up in the Berkshires.

Got our tip ups in, a fire going and I popped a cold one. Decided to get adventurous and headed out on to the thin ice (3") over a feeder stream feeding the pond. Tip Up!! My oldest grab the line and he's tight Get a fat rainbow to the hole and POP!!! 4# leader snaps on the edge of the hole

Reset with a meal worm and minutes later the flag is flying.......nice 16" rainbow on the ice

For the rest of the AM flags were flying non stop with a combo of trout and picks.

Rain moved in so we called it and started to pick up. My oldest was determined to get a trout on a jiggin rod. We tie on a small jig and he makes an orange power bait ball around the jig and drops it down thru the hole.....zzzzzzzzz trout grabs in and is taking line (4#) heading down stream. The 24" whoopin stick is doubled over. He fought the fish like a pro. Minutes later a fat 20" rainbow pops his head thru the hole to see if anyone is home He grabs the girthy fish out of the hole and lets out a loud scream!!!! Mission accomplished Great day on the hard water. Forgot the camera

Baked rainbow trout with crab meat stuffing YUM!!!

Great report. But no AAB "cabin fever" points were scored.

Photos must be included, along with a list of how many layers were worn.
The most pics, and the less layers the more points.

-this is under the honor system, of course-
