Glad I found this forum, as I'm sure other places were getting sick of me posting pics of my fish/boat!
I have the 1925 Pacific with a 90 Honda. Some of my pics are on the Pacific Website, but I'll scrounge up a few new ones.
For salmon I fish with downriggers. The Pacific is the perfect trolling boat. The walk around style is nice for fighting fish. I usually chase my salmon around the boat to stay on the fish, rather than having to turn the boat to keep the salmon out from under the bow.
This is a ling cod. I had a day off from charter fishing and a friend and myself took my skiff to the outer coast of Prince of Wales. We caught and released a ton of ling similar to the one pictured. A charter boat had released a monster world record ling (non-res have a slot and can't keep fish over 35") in the area and I went out to try to find it. I didn't find it though. Perhaps next year.
The next pic is of a 47.9lb king salmon. I chased this thing for almost 2 hours to get it in the boat. It is a very large salmon to catch in the saltwater in May. It was a white fleshed king.
S L Dave , on the down riggers , when you order your boat tell them you want the DR plates .
Some body on here has them and might post A pic. . I know there on the Pacific Give away boat in the BOAT SHOW PICS 08 but I don't know if you can see them .

The snow was from January, one of my favorite times to fish for kings. On Pacific's web page is a pic of a guy holding up a king salmon in the skiff next to the beach.. That's me winter fishing. And yes, it's sooooo cold!
Tell me about those downriggers. How are they attatched?

I had a local welder weld on a bracket. Very easy. They are electric so I needed power. I rigged up removable harnesses as I didn't want to drill any holes and wanted the option to remove quickly as the boat is used for multiple purposes.

Sometimes I hunt the beaches for Sitka Blacktail. I pull into a quiet cove and rattle the antlers or blow on a doe bleet to see what I can get to step out of the brush and on to the beach..
Awsome state you live in. I have been ther 5 times and going back again in June. We got some nice kings last year on the flyrods. Cant wait until June. Nice Boat!!
Dave, thats a lingcod and yes, on some of them the meat has green/turquoise streaks of color running thru it though it doesn't seem like the fish up in Alaska have that as much as the cod down here in WA/OR. Absolutely the finest eating fish in our waters IMO, take it over salmon or halibut most days unless were talking about a juicy fat king salmon then its a tough choice.
Yeah I love those Ling. They hit really hard, and then kinda give up as the come up.. Kinda nice that you don't have to fight them that much!! They often grab rockfish that you are reeling up. You'll be cranking up a small fish and then just about get pulled out of the boat. It's fun.
Very good eating too. For residents, we can keep one any size. Non-Res have to keep one between 30-35inches. Stupid rule IMO.
Alaska has some wierd fish regs. Well the whole west has wierd fish regs.
I know ex-californians who moved here to Fla. because they had to carry a lawyer out fishing and a 2" thick reg book. Just to wet a line, they say.
It's getting bad here, but not that bad. But like death and taxes, the same is inevitable. Our regs are still one or two pages, only.
I did not weigh it, but it weighed a lot more than a 50 pound bag of dog food. I bet it was in the upper 60 pound range. It had several pink salmon in various stages of digestion in its belly. It was caught on a large scampi jig. My wife caught one 4 or 5 seasons ago that was much larger. It was over 60" long and the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket fit in its mouth! This one went back in the water. I probably should have kept it. It would have given the record a close run. Now I keep a scale on board. I personally do not keep many lings, but friends I take along do. Fun to catch on light gear, for sure.
