I wish the Air Force MWR had them when I was in. They did have Tent Campers and small trailers along with snow skis and small boats to rent.

I can speak from experience that the things that davit is designed to pick up will flip that boat over the first time they try it

It's a box beam davit guys , it doesn't weigh a million LBS , it's made out of some 3/16 or 1/4 plate . Look at the cable it's small .
The davit was built for a specific reason and use, I don't think they are guessing at what it will do.

No matter what they use it for I think it looks awesome and it probably serves the purpose it was built for. All of the other boats are quite impressive as well. I always like seeing smaller center console style work boats no matter who the builder is ( as long as they are welded alloy).

I wasn't implying the davit is too heavy, its wonderful. I'm saying that given the weight it looks capable of picking up if an operator takes it at face value and decides to pull on a big buoy or some other kind of dead lift the boat could capsize. I almost turtled my 21 once pulling a buoy with the old school boom set-up I built for it. In that instance it wasn't that the buoy was too heavy but that I had it up in the air like in the second pic and the current caught me and the line to the buoy anchor went tight and the leverage on the boat got extreme real fast. I was able to release the buoy just seconds before my gunwale went under . . .

Oh OK, I'm with ya, yep we have to be CAREFUL when doing ANY hoisting procedure and really watch it if someone else is running your boat.

Chaps , those pictures look VERY GOOD on my Net Book, nice shots.

They didn't have you listed. You need to talk to them up there in Idaho.

Chaps,

Dan at Pacific is very, very conservative about davits. As you obviously well know reach out and over the side of a small boat and pulling up weights is a pretty tricky thing.

Dan will take the desired amount of "lift" and make a davit that will exceed that load by some serious factor, check with an engineer about the "lift plan". No one but no one wants a boat to roll during a lift (especially the insurance company).

Finally the load lift capacity is stamped into the alloy to be absolutely clear with the operator.

The folks at Pacific would rather "not" sell a boat than to sell one that would "roll" during a lift!

You are correct to point out the dangers of the activity and it adds to the knowledge base here on the site - thanks Chaps!
