MOTOR....swap.

Post by JETTYWOLF »

Could end up being like a "WIFE swap, we'll see.
Remember I went all the way to Ohio to buy a used Honda 225?

We'll it's supposed to be dead here in Feb (we'll see) and that's when I said to pop's, "we're swapping the honda's out first week of Feb."

SO, 2/2/2011 tomarrow is D-day. Or more like my first experience at un-installing a motor and then re-installing another.

Not counting a 15HP to a 20HP.

These 600 pounders are real manhandlers.

I have all the stuff needed the Engine Jack, Dollies, and toolage.

CROSSED FINGERS that the 2005 Goverment surplus Honda 225 runs good.

I hope to swap once a year, each winter and extend my Honda running boat for more years of fishin'. Than the average Joe Fisherman.

May do pics or even video. :joecool:

I wish it actually happened.

Got half way thru. Taking steering off, battery cables disconnected, started looking at the one on my transom the 06, then looking at the spare motor the 05, and saw that the plugs and front electrical system looked different. Took photos, drew up a rudimentary schematic.........Hmmmm?

This really is not going to be "UNPLUG" one, and "PLUG" in the other.

I need a master Honda mechanic???

My 05 is missing pieces. Okay, lets take the entire front electrical off the 06 on the boat and take the entire what's left on the 05, on the engine stand, and then swap them. Hmmm, will that work?

Called my buddy who is a GSA surplus Honda 225 engine mechanic for the Coasties. I NEED HELP JASON!!
He says the engines are identical except for the.....Battery cables????? I told him, I'm seeing differences in the plastic plugs, already. He says, "You wanna run that old surplus engine?" Yeah, that's the idea. He say's, All I'd do is use it for spare parts, myself.

Hmmmmmmm..."that wasn't the plan."

Lost and no $$ for help. Wheeled it back into the garage. Is it a 600 pound Silver Elephant?
I THINK SO.

So now you are looking for a blowed up 06 to rob the Harness off of it or buy some new electrical plugs and change them out?

Dave the old one you have started already?

Your buddy said that they are identical. Preserve the old one and when ya blow it and ya will because ya upset Neptune and Murphy :rotfl: :hammer: Swap out the harness then when you swap engines.

It Sucks but you do get to live in Florida, You fish almost daily, your a couple of hundred feet from the launch. Ya wear Shorts and a T shirt to work, and if the customer upsets you he can always go swimming courtesy of you for free. AAAAArrrr Matety Ya walking the plank :highfive:

LL,
Ya have to pay to play. No risk no gain. And ya have to actual fish every once in awhile to need outboards. And it's a business. Not just a weekend romp I'm on here. Income, life style, my J-O-B. And yeah I am a tester. If they only knew how crappy they build stuff these days you might have better built toys.

Consulted a genuine pro Honda shop today, and asked #1 can they run my spare Honda on a rack or forklift?
YES>>>>>>
Can they diagnose any possible problems with the O/B? And fix?
YES>>>>>>
Can they attach my spare O/B to my transom, and put my other one in my truck bed?
YES>>>>>

I'm getting closer.....  Just have to come up with the bucks. :?:
