Hello all,
I can buy a 50T w/a white Penn international rod for $250 and a 30T w/a offshore angler rod also for $250. They are older single speed reels. What do you guys think of the price? I really wanted to go with 2 speed but a good deal is a good deal ?!?
Also the guy has 4 - 130's w/bent butt Fenwicks - 1 is a 2 speed from the early 90's $1200, they are too big for me but PM me if you have an interest.
If they 50's and 30's seem like a good deal, is there anything I should check out or be aware of? How much does it cost to have an authorized dealer service them and replace the drags?
Thanks in advance
Rick

Re: Penn Internationals
Believe it or not, Penn Internationals like most old Penns like Senators have fell way out of favor. Especially around here in Florida. I know in the NE they still seem to love that old clunky equipment.
The reason is the lighter, stronger, reels with way better drag systems that hold more line in a smaller package.
As an example, I took a Penn 6/0 Senator that I found on the boat ramp to my fishing club swap meet. I asked $10 for it.
About 10 other people had 4/0's and 6/0's for sale cheap too. No one sold them, except for me. Because I gavemine away to a friend for $2.00
I have reels 1/2 the size that hold almost as much line and have twice the drag.
With that said......they are a dine a dozen. Internationals or not. Offer what ya think. If they have to go to a shop to get worked on I'd drop my offer way down.
But if I can't work on it myself and do maintenance. I don't own it!
I do reel maintenance for friends and can't believe they pay me to do such simple tasks.
